Hi Guys.

My exhaust middle section needs replacing. I have been thinking of replacing the middle box with a streight through pipe instead of the standard box section. What should I expect to gain from this and is it street legal?

i have a straight through and the turbo seems to perform better now. The pump and turbo were tweeked about 3 months before the straight through and it tops it off nicely

Hi do they supply off the shelf or does it need to be fabricated? could you give me an idea of the cost of the pipe you have:)

Buy the middle box replacement for paddocks, then cut the back box off and get some exhaust section from the scrappy to replace were the back box was

sound beautiful now :D

yep will be fine for mot

This may not be so true, if an exhaust system has been modified it can fail the MOT, if it is excessivly loud it will also fail the MOT. It is a case by case basis but it is quite likely to fail with no boxes left in.

However, there may be a slight loop hole from april, if the vehicle is modified for a purpose (i.e. off roading) then some parts are no longer needed for MOT, this counts for airbags and the like...

Wouldn't worry about it, ive never failed one and don't know anyone that has.

Its one of those land rover taboo subjects along with EGR and CAT removal (Although a 200 doesn't have either)

Just plead ignorance if asked. At the end of the day, every chav Mobil would be failed on a mot and halfords wouldn't be selling bean tins as modified exhausts. A straight through on a TDI isn't that loud either (only in 3rd gear ;))
