Discovery 2 TD5 Remote Fob Locks but not unlocks

Hi all, i have trawled the site for info on this one!

I have locked the disco on the remote fob and come to unlock this morning and the unlock button does not work - the lock button still works! when i click lock it makes the locking noise and the locks on the doors work. recently i have been having to push harder and harder on the unlock button to make it work. 2 months ago i completely replaced the reciever in the headlining with a new one and also the key batttery and it has been working fine! (and still does).
I realised that the fault is inside the key so i opened up the key and sure enough the unlock button has come detached from the circuit board inside the key. Problem i have is that this is my only key! how can i get a new key or is there anything i can do? i cannot disable the immobiliser!

So are you saying it is the microswitch in the fob?
If so you can get replacement keys/fobs with blades that need cutting, if you can be bothered and replacement microswitches.

I had the same problem so just order some up and you should be OK.
to get into the car you'd have to physically use the key and brave the sound of the alarm going off until you can do something about it, like disconnect something. eg The battery and/or the alarm's horn. But you'll have to find a way of getting around the immobiliser to start and drive it.
Others with more of an electronix brain than mine will be on to help you.

Send the item off to RemoteKey they will refurnished or replace, they have a quick turnaround, check their web site.
And order a new spare at the same time.

If your BCU is set up to open by key you should be able to get in that way by the door lock and fire up the Disco.
It depends how the ECU is set up you may be lucky?

Whatever else, you will need the EKA code and if you haven't got that, i.e. it didn't come with the vehicle, you'll have to get it from a main dealer, who will require solid proof of ownership.
Once you have that you'll be able to get into the car and drive it.
So, did it come with a handbook?
Was the eka code on a card tucked into the cover?
Dunno about Ringwood but the nearest main dealer to me is coincidentally in Christchurch!
Do you have a diagnostic like a foxwell or a Hawkeye? To enable you to disable the immobiliser? Once you are in and the alarm is not blaring!

If I was in the UK I'd come out to you with my Foxwell but I am about 650 miles away!
I'd seriously give the microswitch some thought.
You may even be able to actuate it, if it hasn't come right off the circuit board, by splitting the key as you would to replace the batt. You'd need to do that anyway to replace it.

Have you tried bridging the pcb board connections with a paperclip? has been known to work.

As said above by westone ,try the door using the key, it may set off the alarm in which case you are out of luck and need to get the fob fixed and also get the EKA code to use the car in the meantime. You may be lucky and have had the car set up to open and disable the alarm using the key.

There are a number of places you can get the EKA code, if you cannot make it to the main dealer. The Main dealer should be free, however for £20 you can get it emailed to you , if you google search it or search on here , mgrovercodes springs to mind.
