Two quick questions I have if anyone has the time to answer them are;

1. I want to fit a snorkel to my 2004 TD5 Disco 2, I am averaging 27.4 MPG at the moment, is the snorkel likely to affect this by much?

2. There is a bulb out on the instrument cluster, I have heard this is a bit of a pain to replace, can anyone help with some instructions and what not so I can attempt this on Saturday... Also I will be on my own so is this a one man job???

I'll be doing this along side replacing the gear lever bias springs and plate, replacing the O/S/R door check strap and fitting a bluetooth kit so plenty to keep me busy.

I'll really appreciate any help you have to offer!

Cheers,

Dale

Yes it's pretty simple. Couple of screws at the bottom of the binnical by the steering wheel and then lift it up and get a long screwdriver in to pop the catches at the back.

Disconnect the switches and remove.

The instruments pack then unscrews and there are 2 multi plugs at the back. The bulbs fit in on twist locks. I changed the one on the LCD on mine.

Note that most of the bulbs are in fact LEDs and are not easily replaced. So if it turns out to be something other than a bulb you might struggle a little more.

When I did my bias plate I thought I had the 2nd to 3rd adjustment sorted when parked on the drive. When I drove the car it wasn't good, so had to take the centre console out again.

It might be a good idea to go for a spin with everything dismantled and bring the socket and extension with you for some further adjustment.

Cheers, Andy

Where is the adjustment then guys? I didn't realise it was that involved I assumed it was unbolt plate, rebolt plate and add springs... I'm wrong obvioulsy lol

the plate is there to hold gear stick in line with 3rd and 4th gear as 1st and 2nd you push over to left 5th and rev over to right without bias plate you wouldnt know where 3rd 4 th was bias plate has slotted holes and plate can be knocked over if necessary beat done with gear stick on as you need to take account of its wieght

I understand now, thank you, wouldn't have known to check that.

I take it it's fairly easy to line up and know if you've got it wrong/right?

Hi there, I fitted a Safari snorkel, the one that goes down the outside of the wing, last year to my 2000MY TD5 and it didn't make any difference at all to the MPG, which I calculate every tank fill. One thing I did notice is that around 40mph+ the amount of air going into the engine did increase. I've measured it with my Nanocom regularly to see everything is OK and after every mod I've done to see if there is any difference. So there does seem to be a ram effect on these snorkels. No difference at tick over. Cheers

that's interesting then, but does that ram effect cause any issues? I'm having it mapped next week by Mike from Dynachip so I assume that would work fine with this?

Right got the bias plate and springs replaced along side replacing a instrument cluster bulbs and fitting a parrot bluetooth kit... all in all a good job well done and no problems!
