I have a Discovery 2 2004 TD5 Landmark.

Round trip of 200 miles today and the added joy of a return journey with the rear offside suspension inflated to full height; nearside normal. No warning lights; car drove as normal with no issues - just leaning.
Two years ago I fitted two new suspension bags as they were deflating and two new Britpart height sensors as the lower pivot eyes had split on the originals. Worked perfectly until now; the bags are obviously OK but the sensors surely can't have failed already? It's been raining very heavily today and we drove through loads of standing water at speed. When we started out for home the ride height was normal; 30 miles later we stopped for fuel and noticed the extremely angled Discovery..... can water ingress into the sensors / wiring loom cause this?
As an aside, but worth mentioning, I have just had to change the starter solenoid internals (intermittent starting) so had to disconnect the battery (both terminals). At the same time pulled the ECU behind the battery and inspected for the dreaded oil ingress from the injector loom. No probs there - refitted. Reconnected battery and success! Starts on the button!. No suspension issues, warning lights or anything untoward showed up at this point. (Saturday). Forward to today (Tuesday) and now a suspension fault........ Grrrr..... could battery disconnection have affected the software?
Any help please!

Steve.

Thanks for the quick reply, James. I was thinking of slowly deflating the bag manually at the valve block end to get the correct ride height with measurements. Then disconnect battery, remove key and remove and refit a new sensor...... any holes in that approach?

Thanks again!

Steve.

Someone posted a similar fault a short time ago. Turned out to be the shaft on the height sensor was rotating freely and was no longer connected to the arm so it got confused as to the height.

You dont have to make measurements or release air cos you dont calibrate it from the bag side... simply disconnect the battery and replace the sensor then afterv reconnection the SLS will do it's job and release the air from the overinflated bag and eventually inflate the other untill even level is reached... provided it didnt loose calibration which can happen if the circuit from a sensor was interrupted while the system was under power

Thanks for the replies!!
I am still a little worried that after fitting the new sensors (due in tomorrow!) the bag will further inflate..... only it appears to be at limit already. Worrying too much maybe?
Hoping it'll work........!!

Steve.

Fitted a new sensor to the over - inflated side and started the car through the window with the door closed. It took a while but the side affected came down and stopped within a small margin of the other side. Still very high though. Then I noticed the warning light to raise the tail was on, so I pressed the button and it beeped as normal but the suspension did not drop down and the light stayed on. I seem to remember the suspension won't settle to normal ride height after the 'raise' button has been pressed until the vehicle is driven over 20mph....... is that correct? I'll try tomorrow and see. Then fit a new sensor to the other side.
Thank you so much for the help given - it is really appreciated!!

Steve.

The ORM warning shoud start blinking and go back to normal height no need to drive it though it should have not been on if you didnt push it after you started the vehicle... did you disconnect the battery before you unplugged the sensor?

I had pressed the raise button frantically on the way home the other day in a vain attempt to see if it had stuck on. The car has not been unlocked or started since arriving home Wednesday am. When fitting tonight, I disconnected the battery earth lead and then unplugged the sensor with the keys out. Refitted the plug, and reconnected the battery earth. I did press the button again tonight, but after I thought it was sitting too high. It beeped 3 times and stayed in the same position. The body is now square with the ground.
