HI GUYS
HAS ANYONE HAD A STARTING PROBLEM WITH A DISCO 2 ????????
STUPID QUESTION, I KNOW, BUT THIS ONE HAS ME CRAWLING UP A WALL WITH NO TOP:confused:
EIGHTY PERCENT OF THE TIME CAR STARTS WITHOUT A PROBLEM.
THE REST OF THE TIME IS A SERIES OF CLICKS ON THE TURN OF THE IGNITION KEY, COULD BE ONCE, COULD BE THREE OR FOUR TIMES, NO SET PATTERN.
IMMEDIATE REACTION WAS TO RENEW THE BATTERY, WITH A GOOD QUALITY, DESIGNED FOR A DISCO BATTERY.
NO DIFFERENCE
KEY FOB BATTERY RENEWED (AS WAS ADVISED AS A POSSIBLE PROBLEM)
NO DIFFERENCE
LAND ROVER SPECIALIST AFTER COMPUTER HOOK UP FOUND NOTHING, I ASSUME BECAUSE OF INTERMITTANCY OF PROBLEM
HAS ANYONE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM
HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
REGARDS
MIKE GIBBONS

Have you checked your starter motor? it sounds like its not engaging or could possibly be an immobiliser fault but not sure if that would make any noise at all.

by the way you dont have to SHOUT in here :)

:welcome2:

Hi Mike.
Got the same problem, as mine is auto it was suggested that inhibitor switch was the problem, fraid not, the garage even tried another one, all to no avail. The starter is the next to look at. Thing is it has been playing up for nearly a year, you would think it would have packed up completly by now. Good Luck.

Repair kit fitted, appears to be fine, Thanks ratty, just one thing my local garage took the starter motor out and put it back in again, they charged me £80 +vat to do that job. do you guys think that it was a bit much to pay, as an auto elect fitted the repair kit for a tenner. Look forward to getting your views. Cheers Vernon

Hi Vernon, it took me 15 minutes to get the starter motor out of my Disco 2 v8...and 15 mins to put back in. My local independant landrover specialist only charges £35 per hour for labour. So in my opinion i think £80 is a bit steep.

Hi Vernon.

If you can use a spanner with relative confidence, then yes, £ 80 + vat is a lot.

Theres tons of info on this forum about the " clicking " starter on the D2. Type it into the " search " facility, its all there.

Its one of those very satisfying repairs.

Hi Wolfy, Thanks for the reply, I got the feeling they taking the P especially when the guy said it took 5 hours to do the job, I thought they could do a complete engine swap in that time, Cheers Vernon

If I remember rightly, it took me 20 mins to put the car on the ramps and have the starter disconnected, 10 mins to replace contacts, and 20 mins to put it back together and clear up.

I will add that the top bolt was missing. ( and one did,nt go back in either !! ).

Del.

So in that case, the way i see it, Vernon just had his pants down and been spanked.

Vernon, buy a good socket set and a workshop manual and start doing it yourself old chap, save yaself a fortune
