Discovery 2 interior lights stay on

Good evening all
I hope your all keeping safe.

I have a 1999 Disco 2 and have never had an issue like this before.
I took her off the road in October last year as Mot had expired and there were a couple of mechanical issues I wanted to sort before re mot'ing....
Got the mechanical bits done and moved onto a small leak in the sunroof and to ensure it was done once and for all, took the headliner out...
Couple of weeks ago she sailed through the Mot...
Have sorted the leak out and this weekend put the headliner back in, but small problem, the interior light wont go out when I close the doors.
If I sit inside her and manually lock the doors with the dash button, the locks lock and the light starts to turn off but comes back to life..... Sometimes when I do this she will stay off for 5 to 10 mins, but then comes back on.......
The rear door actuators have never worked on the remote and I've never had this issue before ( Have ordered a new pair just in case)
I've read on one page to splice the purple/blue wire off the multi plug under the glove box..... Done this but still the same....
Any ideas guys? I'm having to leave her unlocked at the moment so not being able to use fully.

Lights are usually an earth / live problem, you may have nudged a fitting when re-fitting the liner the electrickery finds a way around ... best to sort it before the wires get warm ...
 
Will be following this post as I had similar! Not staying on!! But not going on when needed!! They will go on when opening the doors! Front and rear! But will not go on when sitting! When doors are shut???

Hi, if you leave a door open and lock do you get the misslock audibe warning(short horn sound)? if not means it's disabled but your problem is that one of the door switches input to the BCU is like the door is open when it's closed, it can be from the actuator or on the circuit, investigation is needed
 
Hi, yes with the door open and locked via the remote I get the bleep warning of door open..... And it's the same if the doors are closed...
 
Then you have the answer, one of the door switch inputs is as open so that's why the interior lights are staying on for 10 minutes and reset on ignition, if you dont have a diagnostic tool you'll have to unplug the actuators one by one and lock after each and when the misslock stops the door you unplugged last is the problem... if that test fails and the misslock will still be present with all the actuators unplugged then the problem is with one circuit and for that you have to make measurements with multimeter on each circuit.
 
Hi all
Well, just spent near on an hour disconnecting all of the actuators..... 4 doors, boot and bonnet...... Still bleeping. I've even just taken the ultra sonics off, still the same.....
Aarrrgggghhhggg

I feel like grabbing a branch and doing a basil fawlty....

Anyone near Tamworth with a code reader that would assist in diagnosing the issue... Or other thoughts?

Forgot to add..... When I had removed the rear nearside actuator did these first) the car acted normal and I was able to lock the doors without the beep....interior light went off....result I thought...
I sat on my deck chair just taking in the evening...... Approx 15 mins or so, before the alarm starting going off..... That's when I removed all of the others, but to no avail...

Mine suddenly started the alarm-going-off-for-no-reason thing recently. No other problems, doors all locked and unlocked on the fob etc. So now I lock it with the key, so that disables the interior sensor thingy and the alarm no longer sounds for no apparent reason.
I suspect my sensor or its circuitry is damp but what I know of electronix could be written on the back of a postage stamp.
Maybe if you got it back to the point at which you were sitting on your deckchair, but you locked it with the key instead of the fob, you may find it stays locked and quiet? Or would that leave you with the nearside rear door unlocked?

Totally agree.... She is an awesome vehicle and has served me well, but these type of issues really get on my nuts... Was hoping a simple unplug of the actuator would solve it...... More fool me. Lol

The words "simple", "unplug", "actuator", "BCU", "fuseboard" and "I HATE FUCKING ELECTRONIX" seem to feature a lot in mine and others vocabularies, with modern cars! :(
 
Morning. We'll I've just been out and re connected the drivers actuator to check the key method of locking.....
Turn the key, the beep sounds and nearly straight away the alarm starts going off......
 
Well, that makes not much sense, but then electronix doesn't often, to me.:rolleyes:
Locking the car with the key is the recognised way of turning off the movement sensor thus avoiding pointless continuous alarm going off, and is what you should do when parking a car up on an overnight ferry. Also if you leave animals inside the car.
It is mentioned clearly in the handbook. You stick the key in the lock and turn it anticlockwise.
BUT, you have to still unlock the car with the fob. Or the alarm WILL go off.
So did your alarm go off as you locked it or as (or after) you unlocked it? Or did you try to unlock it with the key? You can, and it will allow you to open the door, but the alarm will still go off.
Maybe I should have been more detailed in my post.:(:(:(
But if it went off as you LOCKED it with the key, that has me totally foxed. :mad::mad::mad::mad:

As long as you get the misslock warning with all the actuators unplugged then you are unlucky and you need somebody who knows what he's doing cos it's complicated, unless you can see chaffed wiring at one of the doors where the loom passes between the body and door frame, that would be luck.

Yes, put the key into the lock, turned to lock and the alarm blasted straight away..... Thr doors were still closed.... And there were no actuators clicking as I'd unplugged them all....
Really bizarre as I agree, it should allow me to lock with the key.

Anyway, half hour later I decided to re connect the drivers door.... Tried lockibg with the button, hey, it worked.... No beep and internal light turned off..... Wowser....
Have it half an hour and thought, let's try my luck, re connected the offside rear, hey presto that worked too. So far I have both off side doors and the tailgate gate connected and it's working. Been locked normally for around 2 hrs.
I'm going to leave it overnight and try again in the morning, if its still OK, then I'll introduce another door at a time....

Fingers, toes and what hair I have left crossed..

I'll keep you updated.....
 
Morning all
Well my excited time was quashed this morning..... The key fob worked in un locking the car, tried to relock and all good....
Went to start the car to move her over to gain access to the nearside doors..... Key in the ignition, went to turn over and the car struggled with the dash lights going off..... Went to restart and she fired up.
Negative being we are back to beeping and alarm sounding.
Could the battery be an issue or is that just a read herring??
