I am new to the forum, just signed up a few minutes ago. I live in Slovenia now so have no handy independant Land Rover specialist any more, only two main dealers, one in Italy 45 miles one way and the other in Ljubljana, 60 miles the other. However, I have a very good local garage who can be relied upon for the dirty hands work but does not have the diagnostic facility on his equipment for Land Rovers. To solve this difficulty I bought a Lynx unit to check the codes and tell my guy where to look, he speaks excellent English as do most of his staff. My vehicle is a 2004 Discovery TD5 Pursuit, one of the last new stock before they all sold out a couple of months later. I did my pre-service check today before taking it in next week. One error code came up for the engine, 3217 Open Circuit Injector 5, all other systems were free of fault codes. My mileage since new, it had 13 miles on the clock then, is 58,000, just about run in. That is why we took it with us because buying a new equivalent Japanese 4x4 would have beeen considerably more than the import tax charged and a Discovery 3 was not an option, being too expensive and too electronic. The vehicle had it's MOT last week and passed all the omission checks. The Slovenes have very modern, government MOT test centres where the test and your road tax is dealt with in a "one stop shop". Takes about twenty minutes if there is no one else waiting in front of you. The engine has not missed a beat today or previously. Can anyone tell me if this is a serious problem looming on the horizon, sorry about that, I had forgotten about all the tales of woe concerning Disco 2 oil in harness problems. When I asked my UK specialist about the oil in the ECU problem, a year or so before we left, he said that by the time my car was made the problem had been sorted.
