As per the title really - this is a picture of the drivers side (rhd) engine bay and there is a stiff black plastic pipe and socket in the middle of the picture, but it's not connected to anything; I need to know what this is as I have an engine fault light on the dash that stays on.

Vehicle details: yr 2000 D2 V8 auto

Thanks for the reply Ratty, I'll just go and check.

Right, first of all the car was bought as a non-runner 3 weeks ago and I've had no real time to get at it until now.

Just tried turning over the engine and nothing came out of the pipe. There is half a tankful of juice in the car.

silly question. Has it always been a V8 or is it a converted Td5? That pipe is in the correct location for the fuel cooler on a td5. The heat shield doesn't look right underneath it in the piccy neither. I could be barking up the wrong tree here but ya never know.

I'm suspicious about the heat-shield myself, but as I've only had diesel D2's up to now, I don't know what a v8 engine installation should look like.

Re the history of the car, it looks like it's always been a v8, with a v8 badge on the back door, petrol stickers in the fuel neck and the original service book shows it as petrol v8.

Cheers for your responses and interest

The LPG injectors got in the way but you should be able to see that yours is the same. The pipe is the same but in a different location. I think it may have something to do with air con as mine does not have it.

I see what yer mean. It just doesn't look right. I wonder if it's a modification to the original design. Out of curiosity what year is yours? Is yours an early example too?

I'm wondering if that pipe was fitted to all the early disco's but only used on the td5's and left redundunt on the v8's.

Mine is on an X plate but build date was 2000. I know they were building and storing the early ones as during a visit to Load Lane at about this time every available space seemed to be covered in stored Discovery 2's.

Not the same pipe as on the V8. It's not TD5 related at all. It's used / connected on NAS spec vehicles into the evap cannister etc, all to do with emission control. "late" UK spec V8's "may" also have it.
