Hi
First post on here, I’m looking at a Disco 2 for my mountain bikes with the aim to have them secured standing up in the back of the car. I’m intending to remove the rear seats to give some extra height but wondered if anyone with a 2 would be kind enough to do some measuring please?
im interested in:
- Height of boot door entrance.
- Height of floor to roof between the 3rd row of seats in the boot.
- Height from rear seats when folded down to roof
- Height from the floor that the rear seats actually are bolted to so if they’re removed how much height have I to the roof from that lowest point?

your help is much appreciated :)
Thanks
Simon

Firstly, height of boot entrance door will depend on what wheels, tyres and springs the vehicle is on. mine is standard so I can let you know that tomorrow.
As for height from floor to roof, that is the same all over the floor and will only drop if you try to put the bikes in the second row of seats.
You do realise if you fold the seats away, they go back into the sides of the vehicle so your floor will become totally clear, althought the headrests will be folded up into the roof?
Lastly you can find D2s with no third row of seats, like mine, just panniers.
If someone else with one with three rows of seats pops on, I'll shut up and let you all get on with it. Obviously i cannot help with your third question.
Other questions would be "How many bikes do you intend to put in and do you want them to stand upright?" "How long are your bikes?" cos that makes a difference, maybe. I often take the second row of seats out which isn't difficult although the two seater is blasted heavy and awkward. Put it this way, if you can get them in upright through the door then they'll be OK in the boot cos the door opening is shorter than the height between the roof and the floor.

PS It might be an idea to go onto the "introduce yourself" bit of the site, some peeps get a mite tetchy when people join the forum and start asking for help in thier first post!
But you did say "please " and Thanks" which is better than some newbies!
Welcome to the forum!;)

Many thanks Stanleysteamer and Beneagles!
That’s really kind for the info and advice, hadn’t considered how the seats folded but same as my old L322 but seems the D2 has a higher roof which is much more useful. ideally I’d be able to stand the bikes in the back (max 2 of them) and even at a slant it’s much better than lying them on top of each other.
I’ll go say hi on the intro page, only polite!
Cheers

I'm biased, but the size of the rear Discovery door and the load space inside convinces me that for a hard top it is a better load carrier than any other LR vehicle.
You can get bigger stuff through the door and then find somewhere to put it all. Especially if you take seats out. I have been known to only have the driver's seat in and like that you can really shift some sh!t!!!:)
I have a big 3 wheeled weed-whacker and mulcher that I use in France and each year I leave it with a neighbour when we come back here. To get it in I just hook the front wheel in then lift the rear end up and push it into a corner behind the raised middle row of seats. It just fits in. So convenient. And If I ever want to borrow his fu ck off huge ladder to get onto my roof which is easily 5 metres high, I just strap it to the roof rails. Again, so convenient.
And that is just two examples. Plus the fact it is incredibly good for towing.
Discovery 2 or D1 300tdi. Two best LRs ever made!
(Did I say I am biased?!)

I have a 5-seater Disco 2 and can fit my Kona and my wife’s mountain bike with no problem when folding up one of the rear passenger seats.

I use a bike rack fitted to the spare wheel. Its really solid and you can use the door with it fitted. Security wise i use a d lock and chain to the towbar bracket. My 2 genesis 56cm road bikes dont fit upright, but only because i dont have a quick release saddle clamp.
You can get D2 commercials, but hard to find.

Don't think commercials are any bigger in the back than an ordinary D2 with seats removed!

Thanks all
I've not seen a bike carrier for the rear spare wheel mounting. Glad to hear you can get a couple of bikes in the back if needed. If seats are removed then that might give me the extra height though pushing down the saddle/dropper post isnt a major issue, more the handlebar height.
Seems there are a few coming on the market this week now car selling has restarted so seems like a good idea to go and take a look at one :)

Thanks for all your help and replies, really appreciate it!

41"
43"
44" sloping to 41"
:)
No worries...i just happened to have a tape to hand
:)
Hi Beneagles, sorry to trouble you again, if you’re near your D2 with the tape measure to hand could you measure from the back of the driver seat to the rear door please? I’m 5’9 so I won’t be having that right back anyway. Something dawned on me mentioned above about the depth in getting the bike in, it’s quite a bit shorter than a Range Rover so the possibility is it’s not a long enough area without removing the wheels which is a bit of a pain. thanks and apologies.
Simon.

@sjr202 I too am 5'9" and have 66" from top of seat back to the back door. You might manage a couple more if you like an upright seat - mine has a fair rake.
Cheers:)
