Hi All,

Doors locked, i take out key and unlocked car than i started engine on.But those M&S lighst was on gear indigator was lighting on and off continuously.i turned off and on engine again, nothing changed.I took transmition to d and push accelerator, but car didnt move.Than i tried to lock to car, wait for a little while. After that i opened car and start the engine, M&S lights was of and car was ok.But anyway i must take my car to servise i guess..

It sounds to me like you confused the electronic systems during the start procedure.

If I were you I would put the main car battery on charge overnight -to counteract the cold weather - and then test and monitor what happens afterwards.

Remember that under 'normal' engine starting conditions, you need to have the gear selector in P or N and you SHOULD NOT EVER touch the accelerator pedal until the engine has started and settled.

Thanks for the advice re M&S lights. I got battery checked and found there were 2 dead cells in it. Changed battery and problem appears to be fixed.
Really enjoying Forum
Keep up the good work all.

I have a 2003 Discovery 2 TD5 with the flashing M and S lights when i start the car and when i change gears. I fixed the problem for a few weeks by turning off the radio, aircon, lights, unplugged the satnav before i turned the ignition off.

It worked and then the error came back. I followed the advice on the forum and bought a new battery a Varta G8 95 AH battery and for a while this problem again went away.

I then noticed a pattern. If I start the car and put the gear lever into reverse then the M and S lights start flashing after about 5 seconds. But if I reverse into a parking then the next time I start the car, I put the gear lever into drive and the problem does not occur.

If this problem is to do with the reverse gear is there a sensor that needs to be replaced or is there a channel on the Ecu that could be faulty?

Thanks
Gareth
