Hi Guys

I need some urgent help and advice, the passenger side footwell is wet and I am not sure of where this water ingress has come in from!

I have had a good look around the engine bay but I cant see anything unusual, I have also looked around the passenger footwell but I cant find the source.

Has any member experienced this problem! please can a member give me some advice as to tracking this water ingress down and fixing the problem.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Regards

I sure u have eliminated the usual suspects.

I had water in the passenger footwell and it was coming in via the bolts that bolt the dash suport rail to the inner wing, only a drip but that's all u need.
So remove the side kick panel and look up and to the side of the glove box, u will need a bright torch, and u may see a water stain, or pour water outside over the lower edge of the windscreen and then have another look inside.

My leak was fixed with just a dab of roofing mastic over the bolt head, silicon sealent would not stick.
If I wanted some work, I suppose u could have taken off the mud shield in the wheel arch and sealed the inner wing from that side.

could be the sunroof common problem the drain pipes are stuck to the drain channels at the front of the sunroof in each corner the glue they use is crap and comes unstuck water runs down the A post into foot well .if your really lucky it could be the drain pipes blocked with debris.

Unscrew the flat black plastic scuff plate and lift your carpet up to have a good look at the condition of the floor underneath.
The insulation/cladding under the carpet acts as a sponge for water and assists corrosion.
It is not uncommon for a Disco of this age to have small rust holes appearing in the floor, particularly where it is out of sight under that scuff plate where it joins the sill.
The same can occur with the boot floor as well, so it might be worth you checking that too.

I had this problem as well.

It turned out it was the two overflow pipes from the tray beneath the air conditioning condeser unit being blocked and the melted ice then flows underneath the carpets into the footwell.

just blast the pipes clear with an air line from underneath the car that should fix it. I check mine once a year now.

Hi Guys

Apologies for the delay in my follow up reply, I have only just been in a position to look at this water ingress problem, I first of all removed the door floor plate securing the carpet, I then removed the kick plate below the a frame, once I pulled the carpet away I lifted the sound proof mat which is made of rubber and bonded to this is the sound proof sponge materiel, this has obviously acted as a sponge in that it was soaked, I dread to think what would have happened if I had not have noticed this, probably like the flint stones with our feet through the floor! Anyway I took a torch and looked up to the inner wing by the A frame, no water marks or water their, the only other place it can be coming in is through the hole where the wiring loom comes into the passenger foot well, this water ingress must have travelled along the cables and dripped in two places, 1. where it came in and under the floor and drips of water on the facing part of the kick plate, 2. Where the water run down the cables and the cable bend it then dripped on the left of the kick plate.

My next question is how do I stop this because to get at the wiring loom inside the engine bay you have to remove the window washer, to do this there are tow bolts securing it to the wheel arch, before you can do that there is a plastic arch guard, anyone know a work around this to stop the water coming in.

I would like to thank those members who provided the advice to my problem at the start.

Thanks

Like I told you, it will be your blocked air con drain pipes from the internal expansion unit on the inside of the car. I had the same problem all the under carpets soaked and all that.

I blasted the two drain pipes from underneath the car (behind the engine block just in front of the gearbox) with an air line and everything is bone dry now, I didn't have to remove anything inside the car. It's a two minute job at your local Landy dealer or Landy freindly Garage. It's a known issue on any air con fitted disco and your ES has air con right?

You need to unblock these pipes about once every two years, if they get block the melted ice on the outside of the expansion unit (which is the unit that blows cold air into the car) has nowhere to drain too and falls down under the mats and everything to soak them. You've probably got several years worth of water built up. Trust me, check them drain pipes and I bet the're blocked solid with oil and dirt. You can only unblock from under the car not the inside.

My disco's bone dry now and doesn't leak a drop even if it's ****ing down and shes outside 24x7 x 365 days. She was completly soaked before even in the middle of a hot summer we once had. Took it to my landy garage and they said "oh your air con drain pipes will be blocked" and sure enough they were, they didn't even charge me for sorting it out as it only took them 30 seconds to "fix" it.

this?

Hi Ray

Thanks forthat advice, I dont use my aircon because of the increase in fuel, tight I know, will it still do this even if you dont use the aircon, and I have noticed when it rains even with the carpets pulled up there is water dripped into the foot well, I am sure my problem is this water ingress and not as you have suggested however I will bear that in mind.

Thanks

Have you determined at what point the water is getting down onto the carpet yet ?
Old newspapers are ideal for this.

I had a problem with the passenger footwell that showed as a rusty water streak down from the dash mounting bolts on the A pillar, exactly the same as Discool's.
Always reaching the carpet at the same point.

In order to find the leak I had to remove the glove box and then cut the bulkhead insulation so I could pull it forwards to see the panels. By doing this you can see the route the water is taking.
My leak was coming in through a failed seam.

The seam is in the trough under the bonnet, it's the one right at the edge of the wing. Sealed this one and solved the problem on that side.

I had this same problem and yes, it was the blocked pipes from the aircon. I was using bath towels to soak up the water and it was this that convinced my garage that I had a problem. I'd certainly check/ or, in my case, have checked those pipes first.

Hi Guys

Apologies for the delay in my reply and update to this matter, although I have managed to find the water ingress, it took time and was a process of elimination and many tubes of silicon sealant, infact I think I may have a Discovery that may float with all the sealing I have done!

In any case I traced it to the window screen seal where it meets the roof, all the other pointers turned out fine, the seal was not making a complete seal and I suppose just a drip can be a nightmare, however its sorted and my floor has been refitted.

Thanks to those member who contributed sound advice to what was causing the water ingress, and that is the benefit of this forum, it’s a hive of credible knowledge.

Thanks Guys

Mike

Mine was the blocked vents as well. I was fooled by the apparent colour of the liquid soaking the driver's mat - till I realised that the brown colour was due to all the mud in the carpet. Realised it was only wet in hot weather, when auto setting meant AC was running. Then I thought I was going to have to remove the centre console etc to clear from within - but thanks Ray for very helpful advice. RAVE manual says nothing about where the drain pipes exit. I can echo the notion that you WILL get wet - removed one drain cover and gave thorough wash/blow through. The other drain nicely when I tweaked the 'nipple' . . . .

This is quite common on the Disco II, despite being "impossible" according to my local windscreen fitter. In my case I needed a new screen anyway and that seems to have fixed it.
Remember it may be "just a drip" when you're parked, but driving through rain at speed can push quite a lot of water through any gap.

hiya i have found water here and it only just started about a year ago, it come in from the left of the passanger window some where as the left hand side of the footwell and the backinstilation is soaked as well but the rest is fine i there any particular place it comes in and i have read that the down pipes from the sunroof become bloaked but i cant see them would any one be able to help me and i amge would be great thank u

The bolts that hold the wash water tank are clear of the plastic mudshield. No need to remove the mudshiled to get at them, they will be corroded though.
