Discovery 1 300tdi

Yeah I like the idea aswell, I know some will say don't be so stupid as to try that for cruise control, and to be honest they would be right. I did it once to a mkll escort I had, just moved the choke cable to the throttle, it worked a treat ha.

I thought that it would be typical that there would be air ducts, brace bars and wires and all sorts of s*'t behind that bit and thought it would take some doing. I too thought that would be a good place to put that sort of thing tho. Il have to get it found and grafted on.

Anyway you carry on posting this project up mate

Can't think why anyone would say that, a locking throttle cable with no auto release I mean what could go wrong?

Joking...that's not the reason for it but I bet you and 99.9% of people would see how it worked one day riding around on your own

I bought a Gamma Tronix battery status indicator.

Fitted it on the dial cluster just below the switches.



I also had a spare volts meter that i bought ages ago, so i mounted that inside the glove box so I can see the exact volts.



I then moved on to removing the rear interior panels, and the headlining.

Barely any rust on this side.



This side however, has been fixed a couple of times, but it's solid.



Small hole at the rear of the arch, and some surrounding rust.



and finally headlining removed.



I plan on leaving it all out, cleaning it up any fixing any holes.

My exhaust also arrived today, so I plan on fitting that tomorrow.

Eyup mate. What was head lining like to get out, I want/need to take mine out at some point to do some bits and bobs

Hi mate,

It wasn't too bad. Remove grab handles (4 screws each), interior light fixings - i snapped the rear ones, so might be an idea to be gentle with these. And the overhead plastic tray thing in the front (dunno what to call it), and the sun visors. Oh and the plastic covers down the side of the windscreen. Then it gently drops as you pull. It will sit on top of the plastic trim on the pillars, and at the top of the rear door, i just popped it over.

Wouldn't want to put one back in, that would be a pain... haha.

Hmm, I want mine back in to be honest, which is now concerning me ha. just cos it's a daily driver and people I know who leave them out get a lot of condensation. I want it out to sort sunroofs properly and wire in some new lights and maybe put something in the roof for the CB aerial so it's gonna be coming out, so do you think if I took more plastic trims out it would be easier

With 2 people it would be ok - but on your own probably difficult, not impossible though.

Yeah, taking off the plastic trim on the pillars where the seatbelt goes would help remove it, but if you were putting it back in i would imagine they would be useful to rest it on.

Been doing a few bits of the past couple of days, as I'm taking it to a pay and play site tomorrow.

It needed a new exhaust as the old one had been cut off just after the bend.



Thought i'd change air and fuel filter, oil filter to come another time. Wish I had never started...

I swapped out the fuel filter, and the fuel lift pump wouldn't prime by hand. Took it off and had a look and it was knackered - great.

So i went and bought a replacement, fitted it, started it up and it was running very lumpy - air in the system. Turns out the new fuel lift pump had a crack in it. Off it comes again, go and exchange it etc. New one now fitted and it's running fine.



I added a little usb charger above the glove box since everything runs off USB nowadays.



I fitted a (small) plastic container in the back in place of the dickie seat - just somewhere to put some tools and bits. I'd like a better solution, but this was kind of rushed and all I could find from a quick trip to B&Q.



I fitted early TD5 headlights, as well as new sidelight bulbs and headlight bulbs.

Just a quick one mate. Are headlights a straight swap, no work at all.

Yep the pre facelift TD5 headlights are a straight swap.

Been a bit busy recently! Plan on getting some bits done at the weekend, though!

I've got an electric radiator fan on the way, and I bought a couple of panels from a discovery close by that someone was breaking.

I've been finding it difficult to find bits in my colour!

Got a rear quarter panel as I want to get rid of the chequer plate on the rear of mine. The other side was dented so no good. I got a wing because mine has a large dent in it and makes the light sit funny. The plastic trim for under the lights as mine are cable-tied on and a couple of other little bits, brackets etc.

I'm thinking I should replace the window seals whilst I'm there.

Get some pics up mate when ya get yours hacked up, I bet she'll look a rum thing ha. New seals are a good idea if ya keeping her, and will make putting the Windows back in easier if yours have about had it. If ya buy new seals let us know where ya found the cheapest ones cos when I looked they were dear little things
