Done anything to check/diagnose it?
I haven't done anything specific yet, no pressure tests or sniff tests etc.
Will get it checked beforehand to confirm before I set about taking it apart!
But i have asked a few people, and the general consensus is that it's the head gasket.

Get some oil off dip stick and put it on some tin foil then hold a lighter/flame/heater under it. If it starts to boil then there's water in the oil. Not a 100% but a quick and easy way to give you some indication. That along with some other tests will give you a clearer picture.
As I was going to replace the head gasket, I thought I may as well replace other bits whilst I have the engine in pieces.
I decided I would replace the P gasket and water pump, as well as the usual gaskets when you change the head gasket.
I made a start this evening - parts haven't actually arrived yet.
Most of these pictures are for my reference so I know how it goes back together, but i thought i'd share.
I wanted the car to be level for ease of working on it. Here is my home made platform - I can't use axle stands as the ground is not level.
This meant i needed a chair to reach the engine bay
How it started -
This is just a close up of the pulleys so I know which one goes where -
Alternator, power steering pump and water pump removed -
Still in good working order, i'll keep this as a spare since I've ordered a new one already.
The second bolt hole in from the left has a lot of oil in it - not sure if this is normal?
Bolt came out very oiley.

Made some more progress with the head today, I plan on putting it all back together in the week.

Don't bother. Get a couple of domestic radiator bleed plugs, much better and allows you to bleed with engine hot.

I was going to leave the plastic ones in for now as they're both new - I'm worried about the brass ones rounding off the thread in the housing!
The EGT gauge and probe were off of eBay, about 30 quid I believe. But yeah I'm happy with it, gives me a good indication on when to lift off the throttle a bit!

I put the head back on Sunday afternoon.
Cleaned up the head
Took out the rocker shaft so the head would go back in - I put the push rods in a cardboard template to ensure I put them back in the same order.
New gasket
New head bolts
Tightening sequence
Head bolts in and injectors connected
Rocker cover back on and thermostat housing fitted.
I'm waiting for an exhaust manifold gasket to arrive in the post, as the I had was damaged in the post.
I also dropped off the rad this evening to be re-cored.
The plan is to finish putting it back together Friday afternoon - as I need the Disco on Saturday and I'm due to go offroading Sunday!

After my last manifold gasket being damaged in the post, they didn't take any chances this time - strapped to a piece of wood!

I went to another military show yesterday - found out the fuel return pipe was leaking so i've bodged it for now.
I saw this monster whilst I was there.

Then today I went off-roading - car is running well now and it's staying nice a cool. The site was a place called "dirty 4x4 addiction" in Canterbury.
The site had a great view
Like an idiot I forgot to put the SD card in the camera inside the car - but below is a video of some of the footage we took with our phones.
