Not really sure. Or sure about correct names of things, But the pinion gear, I think, had come loose and been thrown around inside diff gettin caught and crushed against anythin an everything. From wat I can see there are retaining washers holding the 'pinion shaft'? These wer nower to be seen so god knows what's happened to them.

theres nothing wrong with no knowing all the correct terms ,none of us know everything on every subject or job,i presume you mean cross shaft(retained by 2 circlips ) in carrier came free and let diff planet gears come free ,not an uncommon issue and has several causes

James, you the oil seal on the flange to the diff. Is that the same as the output seal from the transfer box? Got a few lying round u see and might aswel change now while I'm at it.

Ur won little business u mean? Nice.

Engines? Gearboxes? Transfers? Wat do u do? I want to start another build but using only reconditioned stuff. This disco was a bit of a Learning curve for me. The next I want to be a keeper. Or might even use this one tbh, grown quite attached even after all the sh*t she's thrown at me.

normally id change both pinion bearings at the same time though you could just do the outer , if you google 539707g and 539706g you will get an idea of cost ,g because if you use timken bearings chances are the same shims as in at the moment will be ok for new bearings , if you have no bearing dollies cut a slot in old race and use on top of new to drift races in , mark one diff carrier cao first so they go back in same place,i can let you know how to adjust carrier bearings
