Disco4 engine seize

Hi, my disco 4 tdv6 engine has destroyed itself 4 months out of warranty; lack of oil ! Owners manual says wait for message on the dash to tell you to check oil level - this never happened and therefore seized solid. The dealers took it apart and found the oil level sensor cables burnt out. Land rover customer care told me today it's my fault; should have ignored the manual and not relied on the automatic oil level sensor. Looking at a £13,000 bill. Thanks Land Rover !!!

Does your 110 county have any oil in it? You can give me £500 to cone check n fill it up, ps price doesn't include oil

He ain't got a dip stick, you have to go through the menu on the dash before you start the engine or if you have started it switch of and wait 20 mins.
It will most likely have destroyed the turbos as well plus will need a new intercooler and poss a new exhaust if much oil has gone down it.

In that case I take back what I said and hes got to fight lr on this one!

I would think the sensor has burnt out because of overheating due to lack of oil.
Land rover are very fair with post warranty claims unless you have missed services etc.
It must have been leaking quite bad or burning oil before it siezed, theres probably more to the story than we know.

That's why I want to know about service intervals ;)

"I didn't check my oil levels cos my manual told me to wait for the warning light to come on"

u effin believable!

And I know someones just said that there might not be a dipstick but surely the OP would have said this in the original post if they'd actually bothered to try and check...

No dipstick? Thanks for comments but some of you seem to mis the point; if you spend over £40,000 on a motor the least it should do is what you pay for? Automatic oil level monitor! Maybe shouldn't trust anything on it - screen wash level monitor works though bargain!!! Prob see a couple of you moaning about disco 4 on here in 15 to 20 years £'s!

To be honest with you I think this is a cockpit error, surely oil pressure warning light would have been flashing a long time before the engine seized, to use up all the engine oil it must have been smoking badly or dripping oil where ever you parked up

Manual states oil level check message shows in dash display when it's getting low, this never happened. Only after this happens you go into menu and get a computerised display on dash showing how much to add but only after original level check message shows! Something's definitely malfunctioned and its not my brain!
Anyone who has disco 4 - do not trust monitoring system you may find its expensive if you do!

they can jack that up thair foking arse mate, thats what id be saying! how did they burn out, thats what id be asking!! this sensor is not something checked on a service, therefor shud be a safe component, especialy if there is no other way of checking oil!! thats what u call a foking con mate, a way of making money out of customers, becuase this will go wrong eventualy ,its an electrical component, and what a coisidance, there is no dipstick! ur forsed to rely on thair computer!
