I just wanted to have opinions and comments on the various bull bars/roo bars and light bars as well as roof racks which people may be using on their Discovery 2.

Has anyone purchased a good quality full rack for the Disco? I did see one on flebay which looked reasonable, but wasn't sure about quality, although the 100% feedback looks like a reflection of how people regard them.
LandyRax items - Get great deals on land rover roof rack, discovery rack items on eBay.co.uk Shops!

I know the Roo bars are illegal (although quite what the rules are...) but I did see a Disco2 at Alive Tuning a couple of months ago with an ARB or TJM T15 type bar on the front, which looked the dogs. Anyone care to comment on any other brands fitted to their Disco2?

I have a Landyrax rack and cannot fault it..well worth the money..made to your own specs too

ahha you telling porkies !!.....you got SD rack written in your siggy !!:p

Cannot comment on Foss's rack, but my mate has a Landyrax one and if im honest when you compare one to a gen SD, theres a lot of difference, on my mates one it interferes with the roof bars where one of the cross rails are, which it really should not do.

Dont be to missled by the "jargon" on the descriptions of the racks, they say "extra support" on one of the adverts I believe, which is strictly true, but the rack only has "cross rails", there is no front to back rails in the "load" space which is one of the big dif between these and a gen SD, so I would suggest take that with a pinch of salt.

on the flip side they are "custom" made so you can have it to your own "spec" and they are "available" which I think is a good thing.

As far as Bull bars etc, they are "illegal" to be made and sold NEW in the EU, however, several compaines in the UK WILL still sell you one as they interprit the law different to the others, It is NOT illegal to fit one to your car, buy one second hand etc, infact if a company whoever they may be still have "stock" then they can sell you one, they just cannot buy you one "in"....... I have an ARB on my TD5 which I was stupid enough :D to import myself, but I love it, super bit of kit and nothing looks better "imo"......... although they need a second mortgage to buy one

If you want an ARB or TJM steel bar, then you will DEF need heavy duty front springs, and "imo" atleast a 2" lift as well, they do reduce the approach angle slightly, but having a lift will help get that back.............fitting either of those to a standard sprung vehicle is madness as it simply wont cope with the weight.

Cheers Urban. I did have a nose around your site the other day. Some good stuff in there.

It's a shame the SD racks are so rare though, and as such, the premium is high. I know FrontRunner racks and others are available, but at £900, they are still impractical in terms of price.

I hope the Landyrax guys do continue to build these racks, and I hope they can develop the product to iron out these fit problems. Maybe your friend had an early one. If Foss has used them on N Africa with any load on them, if they survied the vibration from theat, then they must be pretty good. £400 is borderline reasonable for such product.

As for the bull bars, well I can get the TJM/ARB ones easily enough, but they are 750+VAT. When you see what a £900 rack is, then a £750 bull bar looks good value.

:D:D:D

Yeah, the front half of mine has the rails front to back (where I kept the wheel/tyre) & the rear is left to right where everything else went

Fitting is tight-I have LR full length roof rails & the rack only just clears them

Overall, IMO (as UP would say!) for the money-well worth it
