Disco tdi into defender tdi

hello,

I may be a daft question but, I'd like to replace my rather tired 200k defender 300tdi engine and maybe trans and gearbox.
With one from a disco.
Is it a straight swap with just a case of swapping over a couple of parts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Engine will straight swap.
Gearbox is different but can be converted. Haven't done this myself but I would think that the parts on your defender box will swap over to the disco version.
Disco Transfer box is a higher ratio and some say it's a great upgrade as long as you don't do a shed load of heavy towing.

Is it? well you learn something new everyday. so the R380 Gearbox itself is different? or just the bell housing?

defender and disco 300 tdi gear boxes are the same box,apart from selector shaft yoke and the top

i thought it would be the same and I'd be able to make it fit by swapping a few parts over

to fit the defender top to a disco box you either have to strip box to swap selector shaft and yoke or get one of these from ashcrofts

Well blow me, I always thought that the input shaft and bellhousing were different between the two. Every day's a school day
