Last weekend I decided to check the oil pump bolt on my 2000 Disco 2 TD5. Dropped the sump, and what fun that was
, and replaced the bolt (which wasn't loose as it happened), and came to refit the sump. I managed to break off the bottom of the oil pick up pipe struggling to lift the sump into position so had to get a new one of those. £40 lighter and now need to once again attempt a sump refit. The gasket, which the manual says must be re-fitted dry, does not stay in position when lifting the sump up despite the locating lugs, and is a right royal PITA.
Does anyone have any advice on easy ways to refit the sump keeping the gasket in position, and avoiding collision with the new oil pick up pipe? Would it harm to hold the gasket in place with a small line of non setting gasket goo?
