Hi all, after selling my old disco (worst mistake ever!) I'm now back on the road with a trusty 1998 300tdi disco and love it, as I had some odd spares from various disco's 300 and td5 I've come across the clock set out of my mates td5, been searching the net and carnt find anything on fitting them to a 300tdi! Have any of you done this conversion? Or know where I could find the info to fit the clocks to my landy

Cheers chis

The D2 rev counters are drtiven off the engine ECU, the D1's were from the alternator by memory.

Speedo is through the SLABS ECU on the D2, not sure if the same system is used for late D1's with ABS?

It will probably fit mechanically, but you'll have issues getting half of it to work.

Hi Chris, I would say that it's not worth the pain you'll go through to get it working.

I've gone back to TDi 300 as well, and I just bought another TDi clock set from a scrappy for £16 inc free PnP !! Right spec and everything.

Look on Ebay, that's where I found mine.

Now if it were me I'd see it as a challenge and try to fit them anyway.

Hijacking the thread a bit my D1 has ABS but it picks the speedo signal up from the drive in the tbox. it should be relatively easy to find out if you can use that pickup - just scope the signal at say 10mph and see if the output from a slabs is the same as the output from the vss on the tbox on a d1

it would be a challenge for a master in electronics IMO... the D2 instrument's majority are working with various digital modulated signals, including the speedo, rev counter, even the temp gauge... also you'll not be able to make the odometer/tripmeter or warning lamps to work unless you use a BCU from a D2... the D2's instrument pack has a complicated internal software with own volatile memory and protocol for tyhe warning lamp's self check

if you take my advice you better forget about it, you can get nice money for it on ebay as long as you dont ruin it trying to make it work with analogue signals from a D1

Not gone to plan yet guys last Sunday going up the a1 the oil cooler pipe came lose on the block and lost oil pressure and blew the bottom end!! 4 days of work and I've got a new bottom end in and she's up and running sat outside my house ready for use again so I'll hopefully be able to start looking into these clocks soon
