Hi, Silver Streak is back; this time I need of some info.

I'm about to undertake an oil change to Engine, Gearbox & Diff. What oil type should be used for each. Also is there any specialist tools required to undertake this job. Job tips would be appreciated.

How easy is it the change the fuel filter again job tips welcome?

Cheers S S

ESR4686 is the fuel filer. Remove water sensor wiring if fitted. Unscrew water sensor and catch diesel in a container. Unscrew old fuel filter and discard. Ensure the centre rubber 'o' ring has been removed fit new filter. re-fit sensor and wiring if required. switch on ignition wait for pump to stop, when pump has stopped depress accelerator pedal to the floor and back five times. This now runs a fuel priming seaquance that bleeds each injector. you will hear the pump run about 10 times while this is happening the engine light will flash on the dash board. Once this has finished switch off ignition then start the car.

LPX100590 oil filter and ERR6299 oil rotor filter.
Drain oil ising 17mm socket from rear of sump. Be carful when reffiting sump bung not to overtighten as it will strip the aluminium thread easily.
Remove oil filter from behind turbo very hard to get to. You may have to tap the filter round using a screw driver. re-fit new filter tighten as tight as possible by hand.
Remove centrifugal oil spinner cover from behind the air con pump if fitted. It has the words LEVER on it and is held in place by 2 x 10mm head screws.
Replace oil spinner and rubber 'o' ring.
Fill with 1 gallon of oil to begin with.
Start car and allow oil light to extinguish. Once light has gone out stop car and continue to top up the oil checking every half a litre or so untill full.

ESR4238 is the air filter.
Remove wiring from O/S of air box. unhoock clips from either side of the airflow meter, unhock the two clips from the air box. pull the airflow meter from the plastic filter cover and then remove lid.

Thanks Tonk 4x4 for the info, also plan to drop oil from main & transfer gearbox, front & rear axles, coolant & replace aux belt. Any tips on undertaking these tasks? I want the Silver Streak Disco to have major service. Once done I'll know that it's been all done at 40k. Await your reply. With Thanks Iain.

Autobox = Make sure you can undo the filler/level bung on the front face of the auto sump before draining
Manual = Use torx bit make sure you can undo filler/level bung on the drivers side of the gearbox

Drain Oil
Autobox = Fill untill dribbling out the filler/level bung
Start car and run through all gears holding in each gear for a moment.
Return to neutral and fill box untill dribbling out filler/level bung
Repeat untill once you have selected neutral and it is dribbling out of the filler/level bung.

Manual = Fill untill it dribbles out of the filler/level bung

USE ATF for both auto and manual boxes.

Transfer box.
Undo 1/2" Level bung at the side of the handbrake drum
Undo 1/2" drain bung from lower edge of transfer box and drain oil
Once drained refit bung
Will with EP80w90 gear oil
Refit filler/level bung

Axles are done in the same way use EP 80w90

To drain coolant remove plastic disc from engine under guard nearest the front of the vehicle
Using 13mm socket/spanner undo drain bung (Becarful if the water is hot!)
Once drained refit bung.
Fill Header tank with 1 gallon of neat antifreeze (Red Type for TD5)
top up with plain water untill full.
With engine running.
Using bleed screw on top hose in the engine compartment drain out any air.
A good sign all the air is out is that it is blowing warm air out your heaters when you switch them on and also there should be a small jet of water returning inside the neck of the header tank

Fan belt remove radiator cowling remove viscous fan 36mm nut normal thread direction
Using 15mm spanner from memory on tensioner remove the tension and slip the belt off. (Draw a diagram of belt position on the pully's first)
Re fit new belt
fit viscous and rad cover

job done :)
