Me thinks time to change both rear brake calbers in my disco 1. both are sticking and change the brake pads every 2 months and one failed mot so changed the pad and passed mot and now driving the other day pedal went to the floor as if no brakes but soon recovered looked at rear driver side one of the pad is missing!!!! my question is it is the defender 90 rear calbers the same as disco ?? as defender parts are cheaper then disco.

i thought ythe pistons were ingrated so i can remove the pistons and put a new one in??mmm not sure if i know how but will have a peep. it keeps stickingand burning the pads away etc

A few weeks back I changed the rear pads discs seals and pistons in a 98 300Tdi .
Dismantling the calipers can take a while - especially getting the old pistons out .
However the pistons and seals are very cheap to buy - and when you get it all back together you have a very goood caliper again .
You may get away with seals if the pistons are in good condition - but judging by how they are behaving thats unlikely .
A pipe clamp for the flexible pipe means you won't have any problems with fluid dripping all over the place .
And if you give the pipes, unions etc a good dose of penetrating oil a day or two before it could help avoid problems .

Fit stainless pistons if you can justify doubling the price.

Or just fit seals and grind off the rust on your original pistons if you want to go cheapo.

I rebuilt both fronts just cleaning up the pistons and it's all good so far.

No need to replace the Calipers, although it is is hellalot less work!

Cheers
