Sam: Only just found this thread so probably a bit of a late reply, but theres plenty of tyre places selling part worns which retail for aroun £25 each fitted. In most cases these will be the standard road disco tyres not big chunky mud ones, but as a cheap/temporary fix its something to consider. I've only ever used part worns, both on my disco and my previous car - dont have the luxuary of being able to afford anything better!

Thanks :) it's never too late i appreatiate the help/info part worns are a good idea that i might have to do i've just never been fond of it as you never know what abuse they got with the last user or how they were taken care of but as a tem/mot fix i'm sure they will be perfect, i currently have some defender steelies with what looks like 80/20 varible terrain tyres on, but i'm not sure if off road ish tyres will pass the mot

hi sam great thread you have here, also your disco is looking really good top work. On my disco the wiring loom for the front spots well the plugs anyway are just behind the front headlights as i said the plugs are anyways one on each side might be worth alook. Anyways keep up the good work.

do you know where the plug for the switch is inside the cabin?

not to sure on that one lol. Thinking that the socket could be behind one of the blanking plates where the rear screen heater, and rear wash wipe switches are. only a guess as mine doesn't have spots on the front yet i just found the wires when poking around underneath,as you do

its easier to just wire in a relay so they come on with high beam, then you can flash them all at once when people get in your way

it would be easier but i have untill june so i'd rather do it through a switch so i can choose if they come on with the high beam or not :) if the plug isn't there i'll just add my own wireing to the loom and wire it from the spots to a relay in the fuse box straight to the battery and have the trigger wire coming from the high beam passing through the front fog light switch :) easier to say then it is to do i bet :( and the plug isn't behing the blanks in the center console as i've got all that out and it's not behind the blanks on the dial cluster as i've got that out too :)

cant you just wire in a relay with the high beam and have the fuse for it in the cabin so you can disable it if you felt like it

thats basically what i'm going to have to do, but i'm not going to disable it through a fuse i'm going to wire it through the front fog light switch :) want to keep it looking tidy

Little bit of an update :) front seats are now out and front carpet as well as most of the trim from the dash and around the dash so i can get to all the electrics and i found a bit of rust :) quite happy that i found it before it found me so it's only surface and a bit of bubbling atm, i've read in a mag somewhere that i can get some stuff that i put straight onto rust and it stops it going any further so i'll get some of that in there :)
right then i need a bit of help with electrics just to make sure
i've got 4 lights on the roof all running 55W bulbs atm each light has 5A wires going into the cabin they are getting wired in pairs (inner and outer) so i have 2 30A relays which are wired up like this:
Pin 30 Power from battery
Pin 85 Earth
Pin 86 Supply from switch
Pin 87 Feed to lights

the carling switch that i'm using is wired up like this:
Pin 2: Supply Feed in from high beam
Pin 3: Power feed to relay
Pin 7: Earth
Pin 8: Sidelight feed

now i'm not sure what ampage wire i should be using from the battery to the relay?
And how do you remove the washer bottle? i want to get to the part of the bulkhead where all the wires go through, i can see it from inside the car but not outside so i assume it under the washer bottle

Hi Sam just seen this thread, for wiring up the spot lights through the fogs you need to buy a relay part number YWB10027 (I found one on ebay) to go in that spare brown socket under the glove box. then buy the fog switch and there is a connector behind the switch pannel under the clock for that. Then all you have to do is swap the live feed for the switch so they come on with the main beam, other wise they can only be switched on and off when the side lights are on.

Try and get hold of the rave cd as it has instructions in the fitting accesories part

thanks for that :) i gave up with that idea took the dash pretty much apart and havent found any connectors for it

gonna cut a hole in the money tray above the radio and fit a MUD pod there and put all my aux switches and gauges there

not much to update atm been sanding the front bumper down to get it ready for powder coating, when it gets powder coated will that smooth over all the pitted bits? and if it gets sand blasted before it gets coated is there any point in me treating the rust if it's all going to get taken off by the sand blaster?

sam you devil! i new id seen that disco before! i liv in kidlington :) you probably might no me as badger! in response to your last post, if you shot blast it the npowder coat,it will come up allll smooth :) wish id seen this post about your tyres getting slashed sooner! probably could of found out who it was!! is your last name lane or something like that?

No i'm not a lane :) they are good friends of the family tho, they live opposite me :D should i treat the rust before i get it shot blast? because the comapny that is going to blast it will also be coating it :) Oxford industrial finishers if any one is interested

Just looked at your threads and i've seen you around :) can't remember where tho, do you ever drive through bletchingdon the main road that goes through? or past the jolly boatman down towards thrupp?
