My 04 td5 has real trouble starting from cold or warm. Been looking at the fuel system and have replaced the air bleed valve and non return in the fuel filter housing. Still does not start once it's running no problems at all.

Nanocom shows no erorrs getting desperate guys please help.

When it starts up is it smokey?

I fear you may need to replace the INJECTOR COPPER WASHERS.

Change the sealing o-rings at the same time.

It isn't too bad a job, but MUST be done carefully and very cleanly.

Sounds like mine was a couple of weeks back, parts cost me £8.59, everyone I spoke to was saying "fuel pump", decided to give washers and o rings a go first as MUCH cheaper and bingo. Sorted.

O rings - ERR7004
Copper washers - ERR6417

5 of each.

More or less!

Take care though.

It is important to have a syringe with a bit of windcreen washer tube on it to suck excess fuel off the piston crowns.

It is VERY important to go through the injector clearance procedure so that no injector "bottoms-out" as that will DESTROY an injector before the engine even starts up.

It is VITAL that the flat seats in the head are absolutley clean and dry and free of dirt or grit.

Do you have RAVE?
If not, get it and study 18-1-58 Repairs TD5 Injectors BEFORE you start.

This is a DIY job, IF, but only if, you take care, and understand what needs to be done.

If this is the problem, the fuel pump will run quietly again (No gas in the fuel) and starting up will be like INCREDIBLE.

Take plenty of time, take plenty of care, and it will be fine.

once you got it all back together, remeber that there are TWO air purge procedures for the TD5 fuel system....

Purge 1 does the rail: switch ignition to position 2 and deck throttle quickly 5 times, the MIL light will flash, once it finishes flashing move onto purge 2.

Purge 2: if you got air into the injectors you will have to purge them via the computer controlled waste gate, this time deck the throttle BEFORE starting and keep it decked, crank for 30 seconds. stop release the pedal, repeat purge 2, 3 times and it should start.

Worked for me!

I've been checking Ebay for a Buy-it-Now on Jessica, but no sign yet!

Thanks for all the pointers guys, i'll get the bits today. Do you think it can be done in an evening or is it a wait until saturday job?

First time should be a Saturday job.

Take lots of time, and work cleanly and carefully.

Get a nice clean piece of cloth at least the size of a tea-towel, and fill in all around the timing chain so it isn't as easy to drop spanners and nuts and bolts down there!
