Could anyone identify my problem, the disco sounds fine when accelerating, when you let off the throttle it makes a grindy whining noise, if I knock it in to neutral, it's fine. Cheers

Get yourself to the intro section and do your bit!!

Oh and its probably your diff input bearing failing, is there any play in the flanges of either diff, front or back?

they are fine under load but as soon as you let off then they start to make a horrible sound, it will get worse until it collapses and then it will allow the pinion to move and that in turn will take lumps out of the crown wheel and then those bits get chewed up causing all sorts of problems, I speak from bitter bitter experience :(

Thanks for the help! Sorry about the introduction!! I'll get on it straight away!!!

Chock the wheels front and back ;)

Get underneath and give yer props a good twist and turn.

Hand brake on and in gear
Hand brake off and in gear

you'll soon see/feel where it's loose. ;)

check diff flanges for play noise on over run is a sign of poor pinion bearings ,
