Disco key fob question

I know there's umpteen pages about these but after an exhaustive search and almost losing the will to live i failed to find the answer......how can i tell whether i need a single button fob or a two button fob? (car had none when i bought it), it's a '95 300Tdi......thanks in anticipation.

About the only easy check I can think of (as yours is probably just on the brink of being two button...) check in the engine bay for the siren, if it has a black 'aftermarket looking' siren bolted to the inner wing, it'll be a 2 button. The old ones used the horn instead!

If the siren isn't there check the ECU. Look at Land Rover Immobiliser and Alarm ECU's . 10AS is 2 button 17VT is 1 button. Also if it is 17VT you can check the freqency you need, either 418 or 433mhz usually. 95 & 96 are likely to be 433. The site tells you were to find your ECU as well.

I know it's a bit of a dumbass question :doh: but although mine has a siren bolted on the inner wing it does look exactly like a normal car horn, is this the two button type keyfob siren or did LR actually bolt the car horn on the inner wing as well just to confuse me?

open a rear window. lock your doors. wait a min. then open your rear door through the open window and see what your alarm sounds like either hoen or siren.

Sure is

how can a siren look like a car horn.
If... u have a securty system and u can start the engine without a fob then u have a single button system.
A fob is required to re-mobilise the engine with the two button system.
