After a bad car smash in march ( Guys didn't see my 2 1/2 ton Disco and decided to pull accross infront of my into a junction ?!)

I was desparate to get another Disco for the farm. Couldn't find any where I live so I got my uncle to see when was in Bristol ( He used to raleigh them)

So I got a 1999 Disco II last month from Bristol. Came with a 3 Month warranty.

Just after they aquired the car, They had renewed the radiator because the heater in the car wasn't working, then found out it was the water pump. Then I bought it, looked good, drove well etc.

Last week developed a major oil leak and found it comming from the oil cooler.

Contacted garage, said I could take it to my garage for repairs and once they knew what was wrong would OK it.

Then,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, SILENCE ! What a bloody surprise. No replies to phone calls etc, sod all.

Anyway, garage at my end says that the oil cooler gaskit had gone and there was also a water leak, pipes at the bottom had gone.
With the gaskit gone on the oil cooler and what I told them regarding the radiator etc. It looks like the car has overheated at some point.

Garage says this could lead to the cylinder head gaskit blowing soon.

Questions are ,.....

Is this correct ?,.. and Have I been sold a DUCK ? !

Also,.. will a towbar for a 200/300 fit the 1999 td5 ?

what was the name of the garage? Oil cooler gasket is not an expensive fix. I would get the head sniff and pressure tested now as TD5 headgasket issues can be hard to spot and it may turn out it has already gone.

Car Change, in Wick, Bristol. Total repairs supposed to be around £500 ??!!

Don't think Cylinder gaskit has gone yet as no oil in water or milkyness in oil,.. Or wont that show up ?

Is that the car sales garage on the A420 london road?

£500 for a oil cooler gasket?:eek::eek::eek:

Is it diamond encrusted?

From what you are saying I would give the car backto the garage and ask for a refund NOW before it costs you a LOT of money. Mine has had an oil cooler gone in the past and I am still getting the odd patch of oil in my expansion tank even now.

Yup, thats the one, at an old farm place. the £500 is for the water pipes and cv boot too. Think a trip to Bristol is in Order. 400 miles,.. money back please !

What really ****es me off is I always do ALL my own repairs and servicing.

after the mess I was in with the accident, I wasn't my own usual self and believed the warranty would give me peace of mind. If only I was stronger and fitter at the time, I would have just don't the damn thing my self as it's dead easy. !

I'll keep you all updated. :)

Dons the crip !
