Mine runs at half all the time, and I have no fan on but it ran at half before then as well.

Any number of things can cause this, from as simple as a faulty temp transmittor, to a problem with the head gasket I suppose.

Anyway lets start, is the water up to the level, clean with antifreeze in it or is it rusty, is the radiator ok, look through the grille and see if it's blocked up of if all the little fins have rotted away in between the water veins. Any water loss, fan belt ok, fan turning or just sitting there laughing at you, grab the water pump pulley and see if there is lift on it.

Other things, but gona cost you, faulty temp transmittor, thermostat, header tank cap, or head gasket starting to go.

Head gaskets are fairly common so it's down to you, if all the easy bits are ok then before you start throwing spares at it it might be worth getting a sniff test done to determine if the gasket is leaking a bit. I guess a temp transmittor is not going to burst the bank, or a thermostat but thermostats are fairly reliable.

Mine is an R plate and the radiator was rotten when I got it, all the fins were gone and it couldn't have been doing it's job well, I got a recon one with a larger capacity for about 140 quid, if you do this get new plugs for the thermostat and the radiator cos the plastic ones are total crap.

That's all I can sugest at the minute.

Water level ok never uses any clean and with antifreeze rad ok veins clear fan belt ok fan spinning water pump ok? how stiff should the fan go when hot should it lock solid

I have heard people say they go solid, but I have never seen one even on HGV's, they get a bit stiffer.

But if you are moving without a load, yer caravan, then they do nothing mine has none, I finally got around to wiring my kenlow tonight but have driven for a year with no fan, even off road.

If your fan was solid then that would account for it running cold, give it a good waggle and see if the bearings are away, mine was wobbling about and that was why I took it off, and rather than stick another one on I went electric. But I doubt that's yer trouble once it's moving it gets plenty cooling.

no, its a contribution like, but i do suspect more........

Like gurgle gurgle and whiz bang sauna more.

Theres an antifreeze we had that changed colour when the head gasket went, guese it would give an early warning. Sure it was yellow, but dont know who gave us it, it was 15 years ago though.

turned out to be a massive air lock in the 300, 200 is still being looked into but cant take it on a good run at the mo to find out how the temp is running.

Unusual to get an air lock if the water levels have been ok, sometimes if the vehicles been left for a time, or if no antifreeze in it, but where did the air come from.

I noticed I can drain water from my 300 and it dunt take any in from the header, so I guess if you had a leak overnight water pump, hose or summat then low water in engine would give an air lock.

i know strange one innit, happend once before, though nothing of it, doesnt really use any water either, saying that it has been stood a while before i got it and the heaters hadnt been used since i got hold of it so previous work ,may have been carried out and not bled the system properly.

I changed my water and put new anti freeze when I was doing the services. and there was an air lock and the temp went to 100% so parked it on a hill facing towARD the hill and let the water cool right down and open the cap and radiator plug which is plastic screw and top it up again and ran the engine at idle speed and watched the temp and after tne mins it was fine
guess the air travels up etc and escapes thoun the radiator plug mine has no bleed cap screw mine is 200tdi there could be a better way to bleed it but mine is cured now it stays at 50% wither it is towing or speeding! *rarely) can't afford the diesel!! or crawling biut it goes down to 25% when idling cheers
