Disco Gearbox problems

My gearbox is very clunky going into second for a start, and is not the best going into third either.

Also I have been having problems with the transfer box. It would not move accross to the left at all. I got my local garage (LRC Congleton) to have a look at it and they come to the conclusion that they would have to strip the box to see what the problem with it, and this would take a few hours of labour before they even decide whatis wrong with it.

My plan was to buy a second hand gear and transfer box of ebay or similar and have it fitted? (I dont know what I am doing s would have to get a garage to do it.)

Any opinions? Anyone know what box i would need to look for? Hwlong would it take a garage to fit?

have a look ont ashcrofts site - its a common prob on lt77 boxes - thery seem to last for ages like it tho.
I am amazed that your garage are not aware of this, so I suggest yu go elsewhere.

Do some searching on here, the difflock mechanism is probably seized due to lack of use and I suspect your main box problem is a common one, easily fixed

As has been said clean the diff lock mechanism. Also change the gearbox oil. Either replace with ATF or MTF94 which is LR later recommendation. I have seen a number of LT77 box give a better gear change after an oil change.
