Disco fuel filler cap

Two thoughts on this. You don't want your cap leaking because
a) diesel on the road kills motorcyclists and
b) the stuff's expensive. You don't want it spraying out every time you corner.

So get one that is recommended for the vehicle. Doesn't have to be a LR part.

That was pretty much what I thought.

Turns out I needed one for the MOT anyway, so I have one on its way - hopefully it arrives in the morning and so can do my MOT.

I think you may need to fit the correct cap. The cap has a 2 way vent valve built into it. If you fit a cap without this facility you may end up with a fuel tank of significantly reduced capacity.

Could that affect mpg ? a long shot but I got really low mpg off the last tank...the one whilst using the emergency, possibly air tight, one.

Probably just my driving :(

I doubt the wrong cap would affect your driving, unless it was pulled down over your eyes.:)
Might be worth looking to see if your fuel tank has changed shape recently.

Deisel - 25-30 mpg

1st tank Bio - 23 mpg

changed fuel filter, lost fuel cap

2nd tank bio - 19mpg

It's probably my driving, I did at least 1 motorway journey that had about 20 miles literally foot to the floor, where normally I try and use the cruise control.
Didn't expect that much difference though.
