there will be a spindle without lobe on transfer box if it has

Thanks for the response. Me being new to LR and (I'm ashamed to say!) never having even been underneath one....can you see this from crawling underneath? to clarify, if it has a diff lock, there will be a spindle? Thanks.

you may need a dentists mirror as the circled spindle above front prop transfer box flange

Hi All,

I have a '53 plate Disco TD5 commercial. How do I tell if it has the diff lock option or not? There are stickers for it by the levers but the lever won't go to the left at all. Thanks

Stickers for the diff lock, or for the hi-lo box?

No D2's had manual diff lock until the very end of production when it was available as an option.

Approx 2002/3 to 2003/4 the difflock mechanism wasn't built into the transfer box. The only was to be sure of what you have is to get underneath and have a good look.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the replies. The sticker beside the hi-lo lever shows a fig 8 pattern and mentions diff lock. The hi-lo lever just does not 'feel' like it can go to the left, I don't think it is just stiff or seized, so I'm guessing there is no diff lock. Looks like I'm going underneath at the weekend...lucky my neighbour is a dentist, handy for a mirror! Thanks again.

My 2003 disco has a diff lock but I had the same problem when I bought it
Ie as no one had ever used it in its life so when I got it it wouldn't select hi/low or diff lock
And the problem was the cables/linkages on the transfer box they needed some WD40 and lots of working to free them off
