...well as close as we can get to greenlaning kinda stuff anyway!
I've just got back from what was supposed to be a quick bit of friday night bush-bashing with a mate, and omg it turned into an epic adventure! We started at 10:45pm and it's just after 4am now.
Doing a recon mission for a larger group session on sunday, we went in search of some old tracks in local forests that we used to play on years ago, and there-in lays the mistake...we found them alright, and discovered that they probably hadn't been used much since then.
Land erosion had taken its toll, as had recent rain which made some sections 'seem' harmless. Think seriously deep ruts with no margin for error, greasy clay-like crap, water holes a metre deep, overgrown scrub, etc. It was the hardest ever time I've had off-road, and managed to get myself well and truly bogged for the first time ever! In all fairness, the water line went halfway up my doors (thank gawd for the snorkel!), and I got stuck after my mate had chewed through any semblance of grip underneath. The only way was forward, n straight after spending nearly an hour extracting me, we came across a section which was just as bad. It's fair to say that we've got recovery work down to a fine art! Hehehe!
The state of the tracks was jaw-droppingly bad, and frankly I'm amazed we got through it all, esp as we've both got A/T's and no lift. Even with muddies n a lift it still would have been a bloody challenge, just a little quicker! The Disco performed amazingly for a vehicle which carried most of the work-load in very trying conditions, has stock suspension and new A/T's...a good testament to Land Rovers.
My mates Mazda Bravo escaped tonights mayhem with a raped front-right tyre and a rather nasty rattling engine noise which has us worried. We'll check it out tomorrow. Amazingly, my Disco came away with only a broken plastic locator for the rear-right window reg...what the?!
Anyway, there's a bit of video footage and some pics which I'll put up tomorrow for you all.
