Disco Air con pump as air pump

Hi Guys,

i know a few of you have changed the air con pump into a pump to a reserve etc, just wondered if any body has more details

ie are there different pumps ones that will and wont work,

anything special need to be done?

im looking to set one up feeding a 25ltr old compressor chamber on my disco, main use will be tyres and eventually air lockers.

any pics/advise would be great

im going to be doing this on my 110 n orl. The 300tdi i bought at the weekend came with the air con pump etc so i might as well

it would be interesting to know if the pump would last .
the air con system has oil init to coat the pipes and lub the valves in the pump

im not saying it wont work im just interested if it dose coz it sounds a good idea

They will do it for years , mine did, just give it a little bit of lube now and again , make sure that the outlet pipe from compressor can handle the heat and pressure , try and have a longish vertical run from the compressor (with a couple of curves if possible) , have a automatic pressure operated cut off , also a separate safety blow off valve . Good idea to put a filter on the inlet to stop crap getting sucked in . Thats about it . If the pumps been off for some time make sure you do the initial oil fill .
