Had a look at one yesterday, a nice v8 ES, 52 plate, 105k on the clock, but have a couple of questions.

Looking under the bonnet, there is a plastic tank, bit like a water header tank on the right hand side (near side) that had a load of fluid recirculating. The guy reckoned it was the PAS/suspension tank? Is this correct and should it be recirculating like that?

Also and there any other common disco problems that I should be checking for apart from the obvious rust/accident damage, mayo etc etc? The air suspension on my P38 goes up/down no worries, but I couldnt find such a button on the disco, do they have this?

Kind regards
Jonathan

It is in the very top of the picture. This isnt the car, just an image I found on google.

Hello mate,
My TD5 disco has the reseviour in the same place...it's the PAS pump and ACE reseviour...under that bonnet it only has one cap over the reserviour so I would assume it doesnt have Active cornering... Does the one your looking at have two caps ontop of the reserviour? If you look closely on the one your looking at buying...there is a sign engraved into the reserviour on the engine side I think... that will tell you, or look in the manual.

Yes mine re-circulates too.

Air suspension on the Series 2...not all models have air suspension, and it's only air on the rear not the front. There will be a button on the dash just below the hill decent if it has adjustable rear air suspn.

Do a search on here for things to look for on the series 2...lots of posts.

Hi Rob, cheers for the reply. Well spotted regarding the pic. The one I am looking at does have 2 caps, ie ACE suspension. I will have a look on the dash for the button. I have noticed the hill decent button. My P38 has a switch for the height of the suspension, but I didnt know if a disco had one too.

What colour should the fluid be? and how often changed? Any other hints/tips? TBH I think I will go for it, but it will have to be gassed to make it more affordable to run.

Kind regards
Jonathan

Apologise... it actually has on the top of each cap a symbol relating to what the fluid's for.

Mine's a dark bluey colour....TBH i haven't bothered changing it and don't intend to. If you do a search I'm sure you can look into if if you're really fussy...I just keep a close eye on all the levels under the hood.
The ACE doesn't actually work on the springs or shocks...works on the torsion bar and stiffens it up...clever stuff.
If it does have the rear air suspn..check it all works properly or it can be costly. I think you may be able to adjust it on the key fob on some models too...correct me if i'm wrong.
Yeah all models i Believe have Hill decent.

Yeah the top spec's usually come with ACE and I would have thought maybe the rear air suspension too...
Check everything works on it...all the electrics/windows etc etc

How much is it up for if you dont mind me asking?

By the way are you after the V8 Specifically or you've just seen one and fancied it? Have you looked/driven a TD5?

Hi Rob, its a 52 plate V8 ES auto, silver, just had new gearbox etc, 105k, said I can have it for 5800. Here it is hopefully Auto Trader UK - LAND ROVER Discovery 4.0 V8i ES

I havent tried a TD5 yet, but have a P38 diesel Range Rover with tuning box, I enjoy, but it is a bit slow. Was thinking about gassing the disco if I get it. I have had a stack of Land Rovers over the years, including a few V8's so I know the running costs. How do you find yours??

Cheers

Does Looks smart and it's got alot of kit on it...it's quite alot for the V8 though? How much would an equiv TD5 cost? Bearing in mind an LPG conv will probably cost £1500+ for a good kit.

Yeah I like the Td5..havign come from an A4 TDi which flew, it's no speed machine but it's not that kind of vehicle. It gives me over 30MPG Avg which is pretty damn good for it's size/weight.

Mines a '99 TD5 GS 75K FLRSH, bloody good nick for year, 5 seats, 6CD, Climate, 2xsunroofs and i paid £3300 through Fleabay.

I wouldnt have thought there would have been a lot in it performance wise between the TD5 and Beema 2.5 Derv. I've never driven the rangey, So cant speak from experience!
