I have a 2018 Discovery 5 commercial. The middle section of the instrument cluster has disappeared, so now I can't see the fuel gauge or milage etc. After taking to a local 4x4 specialist they confirmed a new cluster is needed and I need to go to Land Rover for a new part. This with diagnostics is going to cost around 1500 quid, I can get a used cluster from Lithuania with the same part numbers etc, how do I get it coded to my vehicle as I think I need to?

It's a £50k vehicle, and can't be repaired on a shoe string.
Second hand parts won't work, as they won't configure to the vehicle, especially parts which contain mileage and VIN number information.

Just get it done at an LR dealer, and get a decent warranty to to go along with the repair.

There are companies that can refurbish electronic components, I had the ECU rebuilt for the electric power steering fon my BMW, £300 plug and play.
If you have your original dash refurbished, would it need coding??

I seriously doubt anyone will be repairing a dash from a 2018 Discovery 5, at least not for a worthwhile saving.

LR might well charge £1500 for a replacement, but it'll come with a 2 year LR warranty on the parts and labour. Like I said, it's a £50k vehicle, so why skimp on replacement parts.

The repair on my BMW was £2500 for a new steering column and motor, and that was through an indy. I managed to get the motor off from under the dash, sent it away and got it back in four days. £300 and a lifetime guarantee.
So I could have splurged a sh1t load of money, going down the

I could have spent in excess of 2.5k having a new steering column and motor fitted to my BMW.
I removed the motor/ECU, sent it off and four days later, I had fully working steering again, plus a lifetime guarantee on the ECU work. £300 all in, so definitely worth looking around, making enquiries.

A steering ECM will be a pretty generic part made by Bosch or Continental, with BMW programming. This means that the internal components will be the same on many vehicles using the same ECM.
A D5 Ipack will be for the D5 only, and not fitted to any other vehicle. This limits the repair possibilities, as it's not worth the time investment for a repair company to carry out such work.

But Shirley, it's just electronics and any back street back street, wire monkey could work on it.
Anyway, the op looks like he may have moved on.
