Hello all,

I know I'm new on here but I am looking for some help/advice.

I've recently bought my first disco. Its a 3 door 300tdi and was the only solid rot free example I could find! Everything is great with it apart from the fact it is an auto! My mum and dad each had their own manual 300tdi discos and I much preferred them to the auto that is in mine.

My question is what all parts do I need for the conversion? I was meant to be buying a complete 300tdi rotbox today for a donor but the deal fell through unfortunately. I've managed to locally source a manual gearbox with clutch slave cylinder and pipework, clutch/flywheel/engine backing plate, pedal box with clutch master cylinder, manual gearbox cross member, center console and gear stick - is there any other parts I've missed out that I will require?

My disco is a M reg and non EDC. Is it just a case of removing all the auto parts and fitting the manual bits? I'm planning on removing the engine and box in a oner. I've done a few gearboxes and clutches on 300tdi's and going to try it this way for a change. I've read its easier to change the pedal box with the engine out plus the engine has all the usual landrover leaks so going to do a full gasket change, steam clean the engine and bay and paint as much as possible.

Could anyone that has done this conversion shed some light on it or give me any advice please? I plan on doing a full write up/guide of the conversion when I start.

Thanks very much in advance!

Regards,
Blair.

Thanks for your speedy reply James, I went and had a look at the box today and I think it still has that level attached to it? I will know tomorrow for sure when I go to pick it up. Just waiting for conformation that it is definitely a r380 box. It came out of a 300tdi manual discovery so I presume it is but going to call ashcrofts tomorrow to double check with the serial numbers.

For the transmission oil cooler pipes I take it I just remove all these as they will now be redundant. One more question I have is with the wiring, do I just leave it disconnected and how do I wire up the manual for reverse - do I just run a live wire to the reverse switch? (sorry wiring is my major major downfall!)

Regards,
Blair.

you can fit cooler to r380 if you want pipes are different though, or remove cooler completely and run without, auto disco has a round plug with 4 wires 2 greyish need connecting together as they are the starter inhibitor wires 2 green ones need extending and connecting to rev switch on box, transfer your old speedo drive

I think I'll just run it without one unless it's advisable to have one? That's perfect thanks mate. One last question - is the crossmember the same on the auto and manual? Keep getting told different things.

Got the first few pieces of jigsaw together :). Away for work for a week, picking up the pedal box and a steering pump when I get home as mine is whining like mad.
