Hi Everyone,
New to this forum.
I have a disco 3 - 54 plate which I’ve had for nearly 4 years. Love it but the usual things had to be sorted: tail gate, leaking/trapped pipe on sunroof, wheel bearings, water pump fail..
Now I have a clunking on deceleration which I notice at low speed. Any ideas?

hi and welcome to the asylum

are u on coils plse and is the noise front or rear , can u hear the noise if u gently touch the brakes

Hi there,
I’m not on coils and the knocking is front/under driver and passenger.
It seems to be when coming of the accelerator and not on the brake..
I only hear it at low speed but don’t know it that is because that is when the road/traffic noise is less so I’m able to hear it..

hi

as it’s on both sides i would first be looking at ur front anti roll bar bushes, sometimes can be difficult trying to pin it down, seeing u have all the wishbone bushes, /drop links etc

there are other D3 owners here so may have a more definitive answer

Hi, Thanks for the insight.
That was what I thought, that it might be something to do with that bushings/arms etc. I couldn’t pin point wether it was both sides, as it seemed to be in the middle- My wife was driving the kids on a long journey and I was worried so called the AA. The engineer thought it might be a transmission issue but couldn’t confirm so it’s being relayed home as it’s 300 mile drive.
Could it be transmission?

hi

1) to test ur wishbones, put the suspension into access height, hold the top of the tyre and see if there’s any movement when u rock the tyre

2) assume u have an auto, if u lift off the accelerator and back on does it feel like there’s some give, ie like a loose uj etc , u can get a software update and reflash the transfer box, but have to be extremely careful, as u clear the adaptive settings first , this is normally done when new ATF oil has been replaced and basically reset the gearbox

3) gearbox vibration and revs fluctuating is indications of a failing torque converter, but know u didn’t mention any of those systems, just a heads up if u ever experience it

4) what mileage is urs on please , have u had all the belts done / along with the oil pump cover

if u look in the discovery section and know you’ve had urs a few years , but i’ve done some service guides etc, along with a buyers guides with what to look out for

hope that helps abit and if u pop over to the discovery section

https://www.landyzone.co.uk/forum/land-rover-discovery.8/

plus main thing is if i may ask , have u got ur own diagnostic reader, the Gap iid is the one to go for

where abouts in london are u please

Hi, I’m not really at all knowledgeable about this kind of thing so any advice is very welcome. I’m not in London but have a v good Indy guy near but I wanted a bit of dialogue before I went to him. Haven’t noticed much else, maybe the revs a bit uncertain when the gears looking to change (auto, diesel hse) the heater is now only working on the drivers side (front and rear) and on high setting it’s cold on the passenger side both rear and front.
We had a water pump go a year ago. Timing belt was done about 18 months ago. It’s up to 120-30k miles now. We don’t hammer it off road and do about 10k a year on normal roads. We are in the countryside but it’s not abused. Have General AT’s which seem good. With the weather forecast as it is this coming week, I really dont want it out of action..

cheers , didn’t wish to come across trying to tell u how to suck eggs

only had mine over a year and do all the work myself, apart from the front and back belts, lol

good to hear u have a reliable mechanic , only asked ref the area as u had london in ur profile ;)

one other important note if i may say , plse don’t ever allow anyone to EVER put dexron atf into ur auto gearbox,
