Hi

I have a 2000 V8 Disco and until recently it ran great, it was brilliant on the motorway and easily hit 85-90mph. However now it struggles to hit 70mph and from 50mph upwards it seems to rev really high and not get any faster I can hear the engine working away but it doesn't seem to translate to power. Also one thing which may be related is when the car is started from cold it doesn't like to change from 2nd to 3rd all be it for only around 200m then its fine.

If anyone has any ideas they will be greatly received,

Thanks

Matt

Hi

Sorry about that, that was a big oversight!!

Yeah its an automatic, which as far as I know is factor standard.

Thanks

Ok the then a feature of the D2 auto box is it hangs in 3rd to aid warm up when used from cold, duration decided by electronics and an ECU.
The engine revs should drop at around 52 54mph when the box is locked up depending on your road speed - throttle position etc if u have the pedal to the metal it won't lockup, does yours?

As always check the box fluid level or replace if due, but if the engine isn't running ok u need to have it plugged into Testbook or similar.

Hi

If I have the pedal to the metal the engine revs high but not a great deal happens. I will check gearbox fluid level. I thought it might be the ECU so was looking to invest in one of those, do you have any red flags to look out for when buying a new one?

Thanks again,

Matt

I wouldn't buy anything before having the system tested which means getting plugged-in.
Auto boxes are a specialist subject so also I would speak to Ashcroft Transmissions, have a look at their web site in the Q&A section u may or not find something similar.
