Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has fitted terrafirma springs to their discovery 2?

Reason I ask, I've fitted 2" longer springs all round and new terrafirma standard length shocks all round. The front two springs don't appear to be sat in the upper spring cup correctly.

Could anyone help by telling me if they are sided? Does the machined part of the spring fit at the top or bottom of the spring assembly?

It is currently machined part at the top and tubular part of the spring to the bottom.

Cheers,
Bob

Just fitted them on mine.yes they are handed front and back.front o/s slightly longer.dont remember a machined part but the bottom coil tail turns in to sit in the bottom plate.my rears came with pass side and drivers side written on them also the 3 coils close together are at the top.

Hi mate,

Thank you for your reply.

Yeah I noticed all 4 springs I got are same length although they are not mating right in the upper cup. I'm not sure if they had to be installed a certain way.

The upper cup has a rubber surround whereas the lower is a machined face which makes me wonder if the machined face houses up with this whilst the rubber surround "hugs" the tubular part of the coil.

Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers,
Bob

Rear springs are a piece longer than front ones.the rears as said 3 close coils upper and machined down.only the rear upper has the rubber ring that sits on top.its a metal ring with rubber.the fronts have a ring with a collar thats bolted to the upper seat. i have some new ones here will take some pics later today.these on the bay show rear spring mounts.

im sure only rears are machined to a wedge

Hi mate,

Thank you for that. All the spring mounts are there and in place.

The upper spring mating face to the mount isn't sitting flush. I'm just curious if the machined flat end of the spring fits to the upper or lower mount?

Regards
Bob

This is a pic of the lower end of the spring so I'm wondering if the pig tail of the spring should be flush with the anti rotation part of the plate but I doubt this would have knocked the spring out that much?

I'm wanting to change from air to coil as well. Which terrafirma set did you get?

I'm looking at the TF230 2" heavy duty lift kit with long shocks. Can anyone tell me what is better? Standard length shocks or longer? Site I've found them on has long and standard shock kit for same price.

Also, have you disabled the air via nano com?

Cheers

Cheers for that cambridgecockney i will have a fiddle on later today to straighten the spring.

I went for the TF 229 kit the reason I picked this over the TF230 was the 2" longer shocks with 2" longer springs you run the risk of stretching brake lines if you go in a large pot hole. Therefore I stuck with the standard length shocks.

I have not managed to change the settings regarding being on coils now but will hopefully get this done some time this week.

Regards
Bob

The TF229 kit also has longer shocks...I think they are medium load whereas the TF230 is a heavy load set?

If I get the TF228 kit thats 2" but standard shocks wiĺ I be ok keeping the standard brake hoses?

Cheers

Yes I believe so as you don't have that extra height, although fitting the 2" longer springs and normal shocks has jumped my disco up.

The stainless extension for brake cable (3 bits needed) is about £40 I just didn't fancy adding an extra job to my list if it could be avoided.

I know some of the kits are like rocking horse I went through LR Direct and got free postage :)

As a heads up, we've had a few boxed incorrectly from Terrafirma lately so well worth checking with the local dealer you bought it from to make sure they are right. Online sellers sometimes just drop ship and wouldn't have the first clue

Oh bugger ill double check tomorrow and hopefully I get this sorted I am gonna give it a go tomorrow and see if I can locate them properly on the upper seats

Hi all

Just for reference which I discovered today, the machined flat end of the front springs fits in the lower base plate whereas the tubular end locates at the top where the rubber cushion is. The tail of the machined end butts against the lug on the anti rotation plate.

Finally job done!

Thats weired cos my terrafirma rear springs nor the original i removed had a machined flat, only the rears.
EDIT
just found this watch at 8 mins in.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHYCuSB-PzQ
shows machined flat upper.

I know well I called LR Direct and asked their advice as there were no instructions in the kit.

The answer (after a while) was machine flat at the bottom. Just incase anyone else encountered this problem.

My disco 2 springs which I removed (both were snapped) has flat to the top which makes me wonder if this is why they snapped?

I only found this on front two springs on my 2001 TD5
