Am currently away from home camping at a game reserve some 250kms from home and need to fix a waterleak tomorrow before going home on Wednesday. The small rubber pipe, see foto attached, split. This pipe is situated at back of engine attached to oil cooler housing assembly, close to turbo, but also have a blocking off function not allowing water to flow from the oil cooler housing assembly to the oil cooler return pipe, if I understand it correctly. Question I have is for a temp repair till I get home, can I block off pipe on the oil cooler assembly side only, or do both have to be blocked off. I don't think there is water flowing in the the return side pipe, the smaller of the two running to back of engine?? Help would be appreciated.

You'll have to block off both sides to be on the safe side cos the return goes into the radiator and there will be backflow there, on facelifts the radiator and oil cooler are both blanked

Just some feedback , the blank off kit I got locally in Johannesburg was only to block off the oil cooler side , thicker pipe and it worked . I think it is safe to say that if your truck was supplied with the EGR delete from factory (as is the case with my 2002 and 2004 Disco's) with P18 or P19 engines you need not worry about blocking off the thin pipe that runs behind the engine . I cut mine shorter to be able to fit the after market blank off kit (see picture attached)
Another way to check , if vehicle is stock, to see if original LR blankoff plug ( hard plastic plug) ref PYB500040 was fitted , then only Cooler side need blanking off.

You didnt say in the first post that your's is 15+P engine and as you had that pipe there i presumed it's 10P so if it was so there could have been back flow from radiator there, see the flow in version B

Sorry for not mentioning it you are 100 pct correct. If I had a 10P engine , or if EGR was fitted ex factory, I would be very careful only blocking the one pipe . In any event hope it is of some use to someone else doing the job in future . Once again thank you very much for your assistance , it was greatly appreciated :D

Update : This past weekend had the opportunity to also block off said oil cooler hose on my friends Disco 2 2000 model with P10 engine. His could also be blocked off only on the thick side (cooler side ) and ignoring the thin pipe all together as I did to my P18 Disco 2. The Disco's I worked on both had water flow as per Diagram B ( posted by Sierrafery above) . Easy way to spot is looking at the radiator bottom right where Diagram "A" has to 2 water entry points and Diagram "B" has 3 entry points. The middle of the 3 water entry point of Diagram B will be blocked off on the radiator allowing no water to flow into or out of the radiator ( even though it has a pipe attached to it ) . To check pull middle pipe on radiator side , if no water flows from radiator , then this "port" is blocked on radiator ex factory and you are safe to block only thick pipe , oil cooler side.
