Disco 2 suspension problem

Can anyone help diagnose my Disco's suspension problem, please?

The car has deflated airbags that will not re-inflate and the yellow dashboard light is constantly on indicating a problem. I have changed the wabco compressor but I have not been able to raise the car up - the yellow warning light is still shining away. One day out of the blue the warning light came on and the car sat down but raised up again after a short drive. Did this two or three times before sitting down and not rising again.

The new compressor does not seem to come on when the car is started ( I am reliably informed that it works okay - doors are shut, etc.) Is this problem to do with an error code stored in the car's computer overriding the normal operation of the vehicle? Is there a way of removing stored codes or do I have to go to a garage with a diagnostic machine?

Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks
 
If its sitting right down on its bump stops then it wont inflate as the height switches seem to turn the pump off. Had the very same thing with mine, so i jacked up the rear to about normal height then started the engine and shut doors.....

Give that a go.
 
the easyest way to diagnose it is to read the fault code which is stored in the SLABS ECU(be aware that u need a dedicated tester for that, generic readers what most garages have will not help) . Untill then, if u are up to improvise a wiring i can tell you how to inflate the bags and ride it so untill u get near a tester.... did you check fusible link FL9 in the engine bay and the compressor's relay R5 there(swap it with R3 -headlamp wash for test)... these are the simple things.

Dear Disgoo - thanks for the suggestion but I jacked up the back end and there was no sign of life when i started the motor. Yellow light still lit on the dashboard and no sign of life from the compressor.

Might suggest an error message I think??

unplug all the connectors in the compressor housing then improvise a wiring as to connect the two air supply valves and the compressor in parallel (1, 10 and 16) then give direct feed from the battery to them, they must get voltage all at the same time .... carefully, cut the feed when the car is on level or you might blow the bags, leave the plugs unconnected and if there are no leaks along the system it will stay on level for days(nr.8 must stay unplugged aswell to not let air out)...at least untill u get near a tester

Dear Sierrafery - thanks for this. I may have to resort to this method as I live up a very bumpy track - hence the Disco - and am miles away from the nearest diagnostic place. Don't want to drive the car down the track without some air in the bags.

That seems to have done the trick. Raised up no problem - and that proves the new compressor is good and I have fitted it okay. Will now be able to take it to a diagnostic place to see what the real problem is. Thanks very much - I was stumped with this and you have been a real help.

Dear Sierrafery,

I took the car to be diagnosed with a Hawkeye and it recorded a fault code of "4131 - rear right ride height sensor". Which I have taken apart and cleaned and re-joined but so far no joy with eliminating the light on the dashboard.

When I reconnected the compressor back into the circuit the car deflated and the compressor did not re-inflate the bags. Should I buy a new sensor and replace the faulty one - or is the faulty one not calibrated properly and therefore recording an error?

Any thoughts?

u need a new sensor, i hope u disconnected the battery before u messed with it ...if not u need to recalibrate the system....those sensors are not potentiometers as they look to be, they work on the Hall effect (magnetic induction)...unfortunately u can't recalibtrate with Hawkeye, u need nanocom or T4 ...download RAVE and do some reading m8
