I've graduated an academy of aeronautics and I'm able to piece an aircraft so I thought a Land Rover wont settle my hash.......even if there were some moments when it did:eek:......It's not a brag, I just want you to believe that I'm able to understand how mecanic and electronic systems are working........mostly:D

Now,....seeing how many problems people are having with SLS and many of them decide to replace the airbags with coil springs I've developed a strategy to use the airbags without the whole ECU management.

There are two variants:
1. to use the original equipment(wiring, relay, compressor assy) without the SLS part of the SLABS ECU and height sensors = disconect outputs and redirect them using a logical scheme through the ORM switch as to inflate both airbags at the same time to a height which depends on how long you keep the button pressed.......it has also a parallel connection with two additional switches, one for each bag for the case of a leaking bag, and a switch for the exhaust valve (i thought to put them instead of the "blind" ones under the wheel)...........In this case if you connect a trailer or put more weight U can relevel the car pushing the ORM or if u want to lower it u push the exhaust switch.........I invented this because a friend of mine had a bad luck and the SLS part of his Disco's SLABS ECU has burnt just few weeks after he repalced the airbags and sensors and he has a quite new compressor assy too.

2. For the case of burnt out compressor assy or if someone had enough of SLS related problems, instead of skipping on coils it can be used: a 12v HD small compressor(as those used for wheels), a pressure limiting valve, an exhaust valve, one switch(besides the ORM which will be used), some new wires. In this case the two airbags will be connected in parallel so even if one is leaking the pressure will equalize and the back will lower symmetrical. The ORM switch will raise the vehicle and the other switch will lower it, both of them connected with new wires to the compressor and the exhaust valve.

So the driver itself will become a kind of human SLS ECU and the car will maintain the confort provided by the air suspension

I have already the whole electrical scheme in my mind(hard to write it here more detailed) and in the weekend I will do variant 1 for my friend by his entreaty.

I named the "system" HC(human controlled)SLS :D:crazy::boom:

Now......hit me with your opinions......I'm prepared for expressions like "bollox", "mad", "on drugs". etc:)

I had thought about an even simpler version.

Go for a coil conversion and put a set of air helper,s in running of a small 12 v compressor.

I call it " African air suspension ".

An interesting approach.

Surely, though, (well, at least in the UK) there must be plenty of SLABS ECUs that are available from scrapyards/people breaking discos that you could fit as a plug and play replacement, rather than going through this much pain?

Thanks for that, I save the link , i'll show it to my friend but he was so pleased about the idea that he will be the commander-in-chief on his airbags that I think he'll pass....but anyway if By George my slabs-ecu will crack without peradventure I'll replace it.

I would,nt have a Landrover if I did,nt like pain !!!.

2 hours work...I made it, variant 1... for the time being without the switches for each airbag.....ORM switch inflates now both bags, second switch activates exhaust valve and lower it. My friend is on top of the world:doh:.....it was his choice though. Anyway I used pigtail connectors to make the whole thing reversible...I'm hoping he'll regain consciousness and after a while will decide to by a new ECU.....if not for now is a much cheaper and easyer variant than switcing to coils and it has the ability of levelling and the confort of air springs.......That's it ...Human controlled levelling system:rolleyes:
