After installing a repaired gearbox was busy assembling rear prop shaft to the bolts on the transfer box side and realised that two of these bolts are stripped ( bolts that are in handbrake drum) . Can anyone please point me in the right direction as to how to remove and replace ? This looks like quite a mission :(

Hi Juan P,

Do you mean the bolts in the output flange ? that go to the prop?. If yes, Can you not remove the output flange, change the bolts for new "proper" drive flange bolts and refit? It is basically shown in Rave.

If you are talking about the bolts that hold the transmission brake onto the tbox, then again remove the flange, unbolt the brake and remove, I would check how much "meat" there is spare around the stripped threads and if possible helicoil it, if not then a decent plastic metal put in, let it harden and retap, just be gentle as the torque is quite high to be using this stuff.

Cheers

Hi ,thanks for the reply , yes it is the bolts on the output flange , I have removed it and found some replacement bolts yesterday . To remove the bolts a bit tricky . The circlip is not a problem but then the bolts jam up against a black "'ring'" (for lack of better word ), that is pressed onto the output flange, when old bolts are pulled out of the flange. Tried to pull this ring off but does not want to come off easily ,so instead of damaging it I am going to ever so slightly chamfer one side of the bolts head to pull it passed the "ring" . Will post pics when I do it this weekend .

I cant seem to find any details of the torque setting for the nut when replacing the output flange ....does anyone have this spec?

Hi Juan P,

Make sure you use the correct bolts when replacing them.

All this info is in the Rave download , do you have it? if not do a search and download it from either the greenoval site or the rangerover site.

Here is the link to the greenoval site, download the file Rave01.iso file onto a computer.
