Hi. Sorry if this has already been covered. I’m unable to find an answer

I’m looking at buying a disco 2 Es premium 2004. I think this has a Becker sat nav head unit. I’m looking at upgrading the head unit to an alpine halo or something decent.

Is this easily done? I’ve read conflicting stories regarding the amp under the seat etc. I’ve a basic knowledge of 12v electrics but know nothing about amps and speakers etc.

Any help would be appreciated, I had a land rover disco 2 years ago and really want another, to tow the caravan

I did this recently on my D2. If you have either a hk or lear amp under the passenger seat you just need to ensure your new HU connects to it via low level outputs. On mosr units this is in the form of 4 phono cables (rca connectors) or plugs. Now if you go on ebay and buy a Connects 2 steering control for your d2 it will come with an iso harness. You may have noticed the Disco HU ( my Alpine was anyway) is standard iso. Thats nice and easy.
So all you need to do is fab your own harness using 2 rca cables and the iso harness. Dont mess with the harness in the vehicle, use the one with your Connects 2 kit. Cut the speaker wires off at the end that goes into the HU and following - + and LR sides, strip and connect rca connectors on to the speaker wires.
So your wires coming from the amp to the HU, now terminate as rca plugs. Now hook up your HU front and rear outs via rca and plug the remaining iso block straight in.
It should work fine but you may get a buzz. Mine does and it was fixed via 2 ground loop isolators from amazon fitted on the rca ends.
Now if like me you crave a better sound again, i added a rainbow 8” sub under my drivers seat after pulling the cd player. Plus new 6.5” and 3.5” door speakers.
I have the lear amp and its ok. But better still i have carplay, waze, reverse camera and dab all hooked up.
Ifyou want a pic of the harness i made let me know ill post it

Plus the reverse cam was an easy install also so again can post directions if needed. Its pointless really but good for lining up a tow hitch
Steering controls are something like this
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/400422308070

You chop off the block on far left in pic and replace with phonos.
Metra do a harness 70-1786 pre made but its honestly easier to make one yourself.
