Guys
I took off the front propshaft tonight in prep for the new one going on tomorrow night (if I'm home in time).
Can I pick your brains with a couple of questions?
1. The bolts on the gearbox end seem to be captive, and there's a circlip type thing holding them in place. I guess I just compress this to get them out? Or should I remove it and replace? I got new bolts which I'd really prefer to use.
2. How the hell do you get a torque wrench on the bolts when you put them back? I can't see any way of getting a 1/2" or a 1/4" plus extension on there. They only need 35ftlb of torque which isn't much anyway, and can be done with a ring spanner, so why bother?
3. After the shaft was out I took the opportunity to check play on the hubs - the front moves about 10-15 degrees, and the gearbox about the same (although it was in Park) - is that about right?
The failure of the crosspiece has actually taken quite a big chip out of the rear yoke, so a overhaul wasn't an option.
Thanks
Jock
