Put at least 50cm long steel pipes on the arms of both tools to have more torsion power and force them one against another........u can use all your muscle strength then:eek:

ok guys, i got meself some steel bars to aid fan removal.
Ive been having a feel about of the bolt that actually fixes the tensioner body to the engine block.
Is it a standard hex head as the bolt is recessed in the housing so I cant really tell...I read somewhere that its 14mm? But a 14mm socket wont go in the recess of the new tensioner when I tested it? A 13 goes in fine but dont want to get that far & not have the right socket!

cheers again

I think, in fact Im pretty sure its a 12 point bolt and you will need a deep socket to do it (or its easier with one) 14 or 15mm rings a bell

it defo needs a 12 point socket, and 14mm sounds right

Yeah that should do it.......

I just been in garage before i went to work and checked on my spare tensioner, 15mm def wont go in, so it could be 14 or "maybe" 13mm, but looked on car with torch and mirror to check and its def a 12 point bolt, its not actually recessed that far tbh, but a deep socket helps bring the ratchet "away" from the engine.

Job done guys.thanks for all the advise.the tensioner fixing bolt is a 12 point 14mm socket.a deep one makes it easier.refit the fan with copper grease for an easy life next time ! Tomorrow we'll see if the squeak has gone ....

just a girley here no mechanical experiance lol but mine squeeks and sounds like a belt slipping but been told its the exhaust manifold they prone to warp and snap the studs only does it when i pull off and inbetween gear changes when crusing and the gases build up and block the gap (so im told) she is fine so if your above dont fix squeek its worth a look

Manifold stud was my first thought when I read the first post.

dont know if this helps, but mine started chirping after I replaced the belt. Replaced the tensioner. Problem sorted. Symptoms before replacing the tensioner were pretty much the same as original OP's. Not expensive and even I managed to do it !
