hi all u lord of land rovers, i would liketo ask if i buy a new msb ecu with chip inside, will it work on my 2000 disco? it has also msb ecu innit, but the real guestion is does the communicates in anyway with immo? the reason is i want to chip the new ecu (used) again with better program and put it in, does this make me a any proplem??

thanks in advance!

sorry for my horrible english...

the condition is that the replacement ECU must be similar or newer than yours,(e.g. if yours is MSB101184 dont put MSB101183, put MSB101184, MSB101330...or the NNN000120/NNN500020) then put in the new(used) one, syncronize it with the immobiliser(with tester) after that u can send it to be chipped/remapped cos they will keep the settings...or you can send the original one to be chipped..... the NNN types are better cos they are flashable, the chip is not soldered into the circuit. Be aware that manual ECU's are not compatible with auto's and vice-versa. Here is a list for Discovery in chronological order if u are interested:

MSB101183 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, MANUAL TRANSMISSION
MSB101184 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, MANUAL TRANSMISSION
MSB101330 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, MANUAL TRANSMISSION
NNN000120 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, MANUAL TRANSMISSION
NNN500020 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, COOLED EGR, CHECK FOR SERVICE EXCHANGE VERSION, MANUAL TRANSMISSION
LR006328 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, EXCHANGE PART (RE-MANUFACTURED), COOLED EGR, MANUAL TRANSMISSION
NNN500250 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, NON COOLED EGR, MANUAL TRANSMISSION

MSB101192 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(+)"EUROPE/J"'
MSB101193 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(+)"EUROPE/J"'
MSB101340 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(+)"EUROPE/J"'
NNN000130_USE 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(+)"EUROPE/J"'
NNN500030 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(+)"EUROPE/J"'
LR006301 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, EXCHANGE PART (RE-MANUFACTURED), REAR, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(+)"EUROPE/J"'
MSB101260 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(-)"J"' OR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(-)"EUROPE"')
MSB101261 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(-)"J"' OR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(-)"EUROPE"')
MSB101350 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(-)"J"' OR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(-)"EUROPE"')
MSB000130 1 ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ENGINE, (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(-)"J"' OR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, '(-)"EUROPE"')

No, you need a tester...it has to be sync'd with your car's BCU to "override" the immobiliser, and then u have to insert the injector codes(you better read the injector codes from the original ECU before you unplug it). After you connect the replacement ECU u have to plug in the tester and syncronise it then set the injector codes.... otherwise it wont work

ok, thanks! i ll try to find someone how knows what are doing, the seller just said that i can just plug it in. how about if i unplug the ecu 4 cleaning, do i need then the tester also? i have to clean the ecu and change the injectorwiringharness

As long as the car is not immobilised and u disconnect the battery first you can remove the ECU without probs. If the replacement ECU is removed from a car which was setted on no immobiliser(code) status it might fire up once...then u'll need tester anymway cos even if it fires up if u dont set in the injector codes it will run like sh*t.

A second hand ECU doesnt behave different as a new one and here is the procedure from RAVE... undestand what u can;):

Immobilisation system
When the starter switch is turned on, the BCU sends a unique security code to the ECM. The ECM must accept this code before it will allow the engine to operate. If the ECM receives no security code or the ECM receives the incorrect security code, then the ECM allows the engine to run for 0.5 seconds only. During this operation all other ECM functions remain as normal.
The ECM operates immobilisation in three states:
l 'New.'
l 'Secure'.
l 'No Code'.
When an ECM is unconfigured it will operate in the 'New' state. When an unconfigured ECM is installed the engine can be started and operated once only, then the ECM has to be re-configured to either 'secure' or 'no code' configuration depending on whether a security system is fitted to the vehicle. This is achieved by using TestBook.
With the ECM in a 'Secure' state, it will not function unless an alarm system is fitted to the vehicle. A 'Secure' ECM cannot be configured into a 'No Code' ECM.
With the ECM in a 'No Code' state, it does not require an alarm system to be fitted to allow the engine to operate. If the ECM senses that an alarm system is fitted it will not start. A 'No Code' ECM can be configured to a 'Secure' ECM using TestBook. A 'Secure' ECM can not be configured to a 'No Code' state.
Setting up of the ECM immobilisation configurations can only be performed using TestBook. If a vehicle stalls immediately after starting it is possible that it has been immobilised. This means either:
l The ECM was configured as 'No Code' but the ECM is receiving a code at its alarm input pin.
l The ECM received an incorrect code.
l The ECM was expecting a security code but did not receive one at its alarm input pin.

It's good to know that Nanocom, Hawkeye or any other dedicated tester can do the job not just the dealer's T4 ...and dont forget to read the EKA code too and keep it in mind

I googled it out after you confirmed and i saw that it is real... my list is extracted from Land Rover Microcat files and those were all of them there... i supposed that Microcat covers them all:eek: ... but as you can see your list misses some of the disco ECu's too

just fitted a second hand ECM on a friend's car... didnt fire up, connected Hawkeye, EMS > Programming > Immobiliser ...i found "Secure", selected then: "wrong code" appeared... went further on the menu > "learning new code" > " code received" ...then up she was... took max. 3 minutes

MSB101330 DISCOVERY TD5 ECU MANUAL
this is the new box, my friend has own tuning shop and i handled the box hin, he opened and taked the program out and he said it was standard. box has spanish text "PRIETO" on top, it means tight or sommit. someone has taken the immo of that box, how this could be possible? i dont know...i´,m gona trow it to lake, noup it´s frozen...

Ihave it too, it means that paying the price u can set it for one modell without extra cost... e.g. u buy it and send them an email with the serial number and what model u want (D2 i think) and they will send u a code which will unlock the tool for any D2...diesel or petrol... it has guigdance in the box

and as a matter of fact the ECM i fitted was MSB101330 too;)

heh, i havent the courage or what it is in english to try yet ;) u know, have to have eagle-eye first :) im cuessing it wont have finnish language innit... can someone a picture in use of that? or 2 piccies :whoosh:
