I’m going to look at a disco tomorrow it’s a fair ways away and I’m not really interested if it doesn’t have a cdl. It’s a 03 without the linkage is this model likely to have the cdl just not linkage because from my understanding 03 rarely have cdls.

If the lever does not do left right walk away

My 53 has diff lock and normal knob with H pattern on it

They did not appear to fit CLD without levers on facelift

Hi, as above I thought all the face lifted D2's had d/l if you can ask for a picture of the low/high emblem it should have the bit on it I've circled in red. Having said that it's not to say something has happened to it since.;)

Mine is different to that picture.

Also has another speed limit in it I can't remember

Facelifts left the factory with fully functional CDL or without it, only early modells(up to 2001) had CDL equipped transfer box without the linkage

Hi, yeah this is an emblem that I picked up for my 01 D2 which has the gubbins in it but no linkage so when I get round to getting the linkage I'll stick this over the existing h/l emblem, I've looked in my om & there's no mention of d/l, does your 03 om mention the d/l ? as it may be a good indication (if it's the one that came with it) that it has d/l fitted.

Hi, my t/b number starts 41D, MY2001 I think there's a list on Ashcroft Transmissions site that gives a list of t/box serial no's that are supposed to have (or not) the cdl bits inside.

The model year won’t tell u much. Diff lock was always always on the option list, depending on the spec level of course, but with the 2003 and 2004 model years the ES spec it’s fitted as standard.

Do not go by the presence of the sticker, they can be changed very cheaply. I once looked at an otherwise immaculate £6K 04 ES that the owner swore blind had CDL and that he had used it many times. It was not until the test drive that it became clear it was not fitted. The owner claimed it was stuck and I had to pull up the gaiter and show him the steel plate preventing the lever moving left that he agreed it was not there. He seemed a decent guy so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed he had confused Lo Range and CDL. I checked the transfer box as well and definitely no CDL in the box. Nice CDL sticker though.

The Discovery 1 had CDL so the transfer boxes made for them all had it. When they built the Discovery 2 they decided that the new traction control system meant that it was no longer required, so they started building transfer boxes without it.
However, they still had a whole load of the Disco 1 boxes, so they fitted them to the early Disco 2s.
The earlier the car the more likely it is to have a CDL box. No one seems to know when the cut off was exactly, as in all likelihood, when the new boxes arrived they were probably fitting both on the same assembly line at the same time.

That's one Disco urban legend blown then. So what is the answer?
Did they start by making CDL D2 boxes and then change their minds?
No AFAIK they made D2 boxes(LT230SE) with CDL internals and fitted them to all early D2s and the lever was optional for extra money, then at a point in 2001 they decided to save some money on the boxes by not fitting the CDL internals and use the non-cdl box for those who dont want to pay for the functional CDL, what's 100% certain is that untill 2000(included) they all had the cdl-box but not all had the linkage and the facelifts can have fully working CDL or not at all

D2s had the cdl internals until at least March 2001 vehicle build date.
The sticker means nothing. I've seen all combinations of sticker & cdl on later D2s and there's minimal correlation - lol. Land Rover would fit whatever they had in the stores.

Is the CDL mentioned in any ones D2 owners manual regardless of year ? The OM with my D2, reg. Sept 01, says nothing about CDL, normally with options it says 'if fitted' so I was just wondering:).
