Hi all, have been doing the D1 to D2 centre diff lock conversion over the weekend.
Have followed the various guides available online, I'm just hoping someone can confirm a couple of details for me before I put everything back together.
My vehicle is 2001 td5 auto, so the questions are :-
When looking down at the spigot through the transmission tunnel does it matter which way the spigot is rotated ? I have had a spanner on it and it rotates both ways. With the auto CDL lever it rotates clockwise when the lever is pushed to the left.
Also, there is no symbol on the dash to suggest the centre diff is engaged when the spigot is rotated in either direction. Should there be a light or not ?.
Your help would be welcomed.

Hi Neilly, yes that was one of the guides, also watched a couple of vids on you tube.
I'm almost there with it all, I'm just reluctant to put everything back together until I know it's functioning correctly.
Regards.

Spigot will rotate both ways, in one direction it'll be in diff lock, the other it'll be in "normal".

Normally a light comes on (unless you've cut the blue / black wire) but have you actually rotated the transmission or are you just knocking the lever back and forth? Sometime a wheel needs to move a quarter turn or so to allow the diff lock to engage.

When I did mine I jacked up a wheel, made sure it'd rotate freely then moved the lever and rotated it until I heard a clunk. At this point it'd no longer rotate meaning the difflock had engaged. Then move lever back, bounce wheel back and forth and it should start spinning freely again.

Thanks for both your replies, I will try your method tomorrow Muddy Vicky, I personally have not cut any wires yet.
I don't know if it has a difflock switch or not to be honest Neilly.
Thanks both.

Well...........after an afternoon of tinkering, CDL is now installed and fully functional.
Took the diff switch wires off and cleaned everything with contact cleaner.
All appears to be working and the light on the dash now comes on.
