hello guys

any suggestions with a fault on my disco 11 would be appreciated, as a little bit at a loss as where to go next.

went in for an MOT on Friday with no problems, came back with an MOT and 4 warning lights up, Brake system, ABS, TC, HD. Haynes manual says Brake system is only brake fluid level and hand brake, but Land Rover manual says all 4 warning lights are driven by ABS ECU.

As no fault can be found on hand brake or brake fluid level, I am minded to go with the land rover manual diagnostics. Garage which did MOT says they have done nothing which could cause such a fault.

Question, any one any experience of what could cause the above warning lights, eg ABS sensor at wheel?
 
Insert "3 amigos" in this forum's/others/google search facility and u'll get answers... it's a long story but very common and overdiscussed
 
is it normal with 3 Amigos to get the red brake warning light up as well. Doesn't seam so from a quick look at the posts

Actually the 3 amigos is not normal... the brake warning must have been there with them all the time as the system was designed, normally it must be 4 amigos or 2 amigos ... never 3 :cool:, but that's Land Rover mysterious world. See this

it means u have a healthy SLABS ECU which is working as it's supposed to:) .. THE ONLY THING THEY DIDNT COVER IS THAT THE 3 AMIGOS CAN BE GENERATED BY A THREAD FRONT WHEEL HUB TOO

thanks for that little table, very useful. It looks like it came out of the workshop manual, but I haven't found that in my electronic copy!

Still intrigued, that having never had a problem, it came on whilst being MOTed. Will have to have a proper look tomorrow to see if any sign of damage around sensors/ cabling that may have been caused during the MOT inspection.

I suspect we are heading towards finding a diagnostics computer for a proper analysis.
 
Yes the best way to find the fault is to plug it in a tester.... saves u a lot of time and will lead u directly(or very close) to the fault. Sometimes clearing the fault will keep u clean for a long time... maybe this helps http://www.nanocom-locator.co.uk/ By the way...Do they put the car on some stand and shake it during the MOT? ... cos if they do this could be the cause

If during the MOT they tested your shock absorbers on a vibrating table, this could trigger the 3 amigo's.
 
The 3 lights are quite common as has been said already, but I did once see the 4th brake light as well which I think means a more serious error. For me it came on when I was fixing a wiring problem with the abs modulator. I unplugged the pump to do the fix and then forgot to plug it back in. Turned on and saw the 4 lights, plugged it back in and then just the normal 3 until I reset the original fault I was fixing, then none :)

not aware of any fancy means of shaking the car during a standard MOT test, brake test is done on the road (emergency stop) with a accelarometer (deccelaromter? cant remember proper name for the meter they use) as cant put it on a 2 roller brake tester. That was my first thought that they had stuck it on the rollers and broke something, but they claim not.

From the table above, I suspect a pulled wire to an ABS sensor, sensor fault seams to be good for 4 lights and probably quite easy to do whilst under there with a crow bar looking for play in the joints.

Thanks for offer to help with a nanocom, but Bristol is a bit of a way. I think its time to go buy my own diagnostics, hawkeye looks like the way to go at present. Always said I'd get one once I had a problem which justified it, which I now do. Just a little bit miffed that it has occurred whilst not in my care and I don't really know what they did with it.
 
hawkeye said left rear sensor wire. reset and no lights up since. i am begining to smell a rat from a garage without much work. Having challendged them again on what they did or did not do the amount of bull from the young imported branch manager was breath taking and he couldn't see the holes he was digging for himself as his claims got more and more outrageous
 
I have the same problem the 3 amigo's after an MOT, in which the garage replaced the passenger side CV gaitor.

Read above - "THE 3 AMIGOS CAN BE GENERATED BY A THREAD FRONT WHEEL HUB TOO" what does this mean?? sorry for sounding thick.

Wonder if ABS sensor is not fitted properly.

Hi James, I think what Fery was meaning was that a WORN front wheel hub bearing can cause the three amigos.
