Disco 1 sounds ice speakers

Right wanna sort the sounds in the disco 1997 es

at the bottom of the rear door theres a big speaker looking type grill, is there a speaker in there ? isnt working if there is, was wondering if its maybe a sub of some sort ? is it as standerd/factory ? , if so any ideas on getting it working, and/or what size/type of speaker is it exactly ? any links to a replacement ?

also a rear speaker isnt working, was wondering what sort of speaker upgrades people have ? what size speakers are they front and rear ?

Is the bass turned up at the head unit.?

The back door bass speaker (there's two behind the grill) could have their diaphrams breaking up so the speaker will require replacing, you could also check if the amp is receving the 12v supply and a 12v "switching on" supply.

If you need a replacement speaker just remove one and take it into an ICE shop and ask them to match it.

I have a 10" sub in the boot it takes up a bit of space (but I can unplug it and switch back to the door speaker if required) and far better than the so called sub that Land Rover fit, I also changed the head unit and CD played to a Pioneer unit, again a better performance and sound than the stuff Land Rover fitted.

Surprisingly I found the front doors and the rear pillar speakers sounding very good and take 50watts of power easy. Thke the grill and measure you will find the size around 100mm. 4"

yes the bass is turned up to 4-as high as it goes

so theres an amp too ? where abouts is this located ? i think il replace all 6 speakers for some half decent sound, and the head unit as i want bluetooth hands free and ipod connection, although a shame to loose the standard head unit

however...what amp is it ? has it any connections that could somehow allow an ipod to be connected in and maybe powered too ? keeeping the standard unit but then having an ipod would be great, although that £140 head unit posted that has a touch screen,bluetooth,dvd+tv, would be quite flash i think

The "sub" speaker is bolted to the amp if you want to see it, just unscrew the grill then unscrew the pod, then unscrew the amp and speaker module, it's all screws.. lots.

An IPOD/MP3 player plugs in to the head unit not the sub amp.

Some replacement head units sit deeper than the normal factory fit unit so I don't know if the unit with the screen would work as the dash top would stop it deploying fully unless the head unit was pulled out from the hole a bit, but that's how it looks to me.

thanks mate,il unscrew it tomorrow and have a look and take the changer out too ,i moved the seat forward n had a little look/feel, there is a connection comming from the raised bit under where the carpet rises,and it is connected in to the changer by the looks of it going in to the bottom left corner

of course i know the ipod can connect to a stero, but sometimes an amp can have a direct aux connection if a head unit hasnt got one, i presume the standard stereo doesnt ? i spose il probably have to replace the unit for a modern/decent one to have the ipod in properly, although il see if i can get the cd changer to work 1st, from past expirience ipod tape adapters and fm transmitters are not worth bothering with and also look rubbish/too many cables
